It's almost time to plant sugar snaps in my neck of the woods. They are one of my favorite things to plant. Anybody else? Has anyone already planted them? Or, have you picked out the variety you'll plant this year?
Yes, we've planted them for several years now. I love them! We have some chicken wire and old rebar that they vine on, makes it really easy to pick. I'm not sure which variety we are going to use this year. I saw some Sugar Ann in Gurney's seed book that looks interesting. They say that are some weeks earlier and stringless. Probably will start the seeds inside in late April. Last year my husband and I were too early with most of the seeds we started as we had some late snows and frosts.
Put my sugar snap seeds in the ground this past Saturday. I will wait for them to peek out before I put any sticks in the ground for them to cling to. And when my broccoli is finished I will plant more. I absolutely LOVE to pick peas and bring them in for dinner. YUM!
Mine went in a week ago, just a few days before the snow. More rain this week, so I doubt I'll see any green for yet another week. I made a pea fence out of the trimmings from the apple tree. Looks very nice. If only my camera was working.... Sharon
Guess what? Mine are peeking up through the soil!!!! Now I will have to find and put in place branches or something for them to cling to as they grow. And try to keep the Cardinals away. They love to come and pinch them off!
I started mine in the house a few weeks ago. They're about 4" high now. I'm planning to start setting them out in the greenhouse during the day and bring them back in at night since we're still in the single digits at night. I have lettuces, broccoli and some flowers going now, too.
