My 15 y/o cousin was just floored when he saw I had myspace. I asked him if it was because I am old, and that little brat answered, yes!

My youngest BIL is 18, and he asked me to be his friend about a year ago...I agreed and then was totally sorry because I was WAY too familiar with what he was up to at 16-17 years old...and he had his name "scrambled" so his mom couldn't check it out....so one day she asked me about Myspace and his page because he's VERY anti parental checking...so I told her she could access it through mine and I wrote the link down...and then my husband yelled to his brother...."You better get smart! My wife is over here trying to ruin your life!!!!" so his mother STILL doesn't know about all his "stuff" and I just don't look anymore :)

THe worst part for me are people from high school that think we were friends. One girl in particular that robbed my locker. I think that's called selective memory. I love it though, it's the main way I keep in touch with my 20 y/o sister. My mom even has a myspace, hers has pickles as a background. It's a good way to share pics.

ok, so i'll probably cave in an do the myspace thing. i went to check out my sister's page and there are a few people listed on there i would love to get back in touch with. one is this crazy brother-like friend from jr high/highschool who is in iraq. i talked to him a couple times this summer, but after he deployed we lost touch again.

girls .. i saw a report on tv the other day about how sometimes photos posted are dangerously mis-used (and abused) on myspace .. is that because it is mostly young people who might be not quite so discreet about the photos they post? i've actually never looked at it.
i guess 'blogs' are safer .. cuz' we older and wiser women mostly post stuff that 'sick' people aren't interested in.
now .. i sure try not to 'judge' very often .. but the Child Pornography Section was in the Criminal Division at Justice where i worked .. and it just tore my heart out at some of the stuff i saw.
gosh .. i thought only truly 'mean-spirited' people were in danger of incurring 'the wrath of frannie' . but i can surely add child molestors and those that deal in child pornography to that list too.
WWJD ... gosh .. perform a miracle i would hope .. but i'm a human being .. and i do get livid at their 'behavior'!
children and gentle olde people have always had a special place in my hart!

I have a myspace with my photography stuff and it has been an excellent marketing tool to get the word out. I have been able to promote my stuff free and I have actually booked several photo sessions over the last year because of it. Young and old have gotten on there. I've found it to be the best way to stay connected with college and high school friends on there.
A few bad apples can ruin a good thing. Parents should be parents and be sure to teach their kids right from wrong. It is very easy to put a profile on private and to hide photos, blogs, etc on there. Myspace has gotten a bad wrap on stuff because parents were not watching what their kids are doing and by allowing them to have computers in their rooms instead of a public area of the house. Parents need to do their job of parenting and teaching kids rather than blame it on something else.
The internet hasn't been out too long and computers were officially a hit back in the 80s. Now it seems like everyone has a computer. They can be effective tools to use if used correctly. We didn't have computers in the classroom until I was 10 years old. Times sure have changed.

Hey, I am an oldie of 51 and I really like my my space. It is set to private and I am the one in control of who sees what. It is a safe enviorment when you take the precautions. It is great cause I get to chat with my nieces. I love it. Just an old wise woman's opinion.

My page, too, Carol Sue. And you're no oldie...I started my page because of friends from boarding school--we're scattered all over the world (literally), some of us even in Russia, and it's nice to be able to connect, when say, you can't just call Russia! I set mine to private and you have to answer a question to be my friend--I'll ask folks that I want but otherwise, it's limited.
My husband has a page for his music, and I was always dismayed by the number of "little" girls who posted provocative (cleavage) shots and wrote things about themselves that get the WRONG kind of attention...however, I think if mom and dad actually took a little interest and had set rules about the internet (and, ahem, schools also), there would be less troubles...

So what is the diffrence, pros/cons between myspace and facebook? My NC friends use facebook and my friends from SD use myspace. I don't think I want to mess with both.

I have a myspace account for my family and friends. I only allow people who I approve on my list and I use it to keep in contact with friends and family who are in other states or away at college. I also have a Tagged account that I enjoy. It also has my family and friends on it. I actually like Tagged better. I don't get on either of them that often, just when I get e-mails about comments sent to me or I send out a birthday wish. I'll pm you Bridget with my Myspace and Tagged sites and you can check them out!

Most my my kids and grandkids have their own myspace pages; I sometimes wish I had a page so I could read more on their pages, since a lot of the blogs etc. are blocked to non-myspace account holders.
Or do I really want to read the stuff they don't tell me anyway? To me, it seems a little bit like eavesdropping, but on the other hand, they do "out it out there" for teh rest of the world to read...
