So glad you got them Annika. I'm so anxious for Spring too. Saw my first flock of robins today right down the street from my house in a yard.a whole bunch of them along with a bunch of starlings..Spring is right around the corner. I picked up an almanac for my area and a small bunch of brussel sprout plants today at the feed store when I went to get duck and chicken feed. I also have a container of earth worms on my kitchen counter that I'm feeding bread and banana peels to, and I'll be adding them to my garden soon..ha. Gotta get myself to the store for some good soil to add to my raised beds. Was supposed to have a guy come by tomorrow to help till up about 1/4 of my backyard to expand my cottage garden area and to help till small areas for me that I can put in about 3 more 4 ft x 4ft raised beds in... and an 8 ft. by 3 ft bed against the fence for growing melons and sunflowers..but darn it if he decided not to want to be here tomorrow..so I may have to wait an extra week or just go ahead and tackle it all myself..arggh. He was supposed to also come help trim trees and freshen up the yard..but we'll see. But anyhow...yes..I'm so looking forward to Spring too.

well they were in a neighbors yard about 2 blocks away..but because I have big peking ducks in my yard...the birds don't visit quite as often..I hope that a few will eventually venture into my back yard though..I'd so love to get a photo of one this year. And thanks for stopping by my Garden Goose Market..really appreciate it.:0)

We had a hummingbird visit the feeder yesterday, during another dusting of snow. The swallows arrived two weeks ago and I can't help but think they'd rather be down south again! Thank godness I can "play" in my greenhouses. I like your heirloom choices Tina, they are beautiful.

Hey Tina,
I just took a look at your Garden Goose market. I'd really like to start collecting heirloom seeds but I'm still 2-3 years away from being able to use them unless our goals are reached sooner... So how could I store these seeds??? Or should I wait until I get to the season before planting...just thought it would be neat to start collecting...kind of like a way to see my garden before it produces...Let me know what I should do..
Thanks, Steph |

Hi Stephanie, Although it is true that "some" seed can remain viable up to 5 years after the "packed for" date..this is only if they are kept in a sealed/airtight container where no moisture/no extreme temperatures occur. Germination viability does decrease slightly year after year on some seeds. If it will be 2-3 yrs before your garden is to start I would honestly say it is best to wait. That way you can better guarantee yourself that most of what is planted will sprout up for you. ---------- During this time though I would encourage you to create a "garden dreams" journal. Include names of varieties you'd like to plant, along with photos. And also maybe actually design some gardens on a grid paper. Another thing is maybe include photos from magazines of gardens that you'd like to copy elements from. ---------- 2-3 yrs will pass very quickly and soon those garden dreams will be a reality, and then you can be assured that you have a plan in place..and seeds that will sprout and grow for you. -------- ~Tina

I just ordered three heirloom tomatoes that I didn't have yet. I can't resist tomatoes and peppers. I already have enough for 3 BIG gardens planted and growing indoors..but what the heck..you can't have too many tomatoes..and they can't go outside here for another 6 weeks or so.

hey Aunt Jenny, thanks. Paul has been tilling up the entire back half of our city lot behind my cottage garden and he's been planting all kinds of things. I've been adding to my herb garden up by the house too. So, hopefully we'll have a great garden season this year.

Hey Tina,
Thanks so much for your honesty...The whole time I was thinking of starting the collection I had in mind to store them in a journal of some sort...LOL
So I can really accomplish what I need to right now by starting the "dream garden" journal and put a picture and all the particulars about it on a page of their own.
Thanks so much...this excites me...It's just not the same trying to sprout something from an apartment porch without full sunlight when you've already been spoiled by digging in the dirt on your own land. I will again just had to get straight in my mind between now and then...Thanks for helping me figure it out!
