Ok now I have a question, I love armoires etc or dressers but what could we use instead of our clunky entertainment center to sorta go with our homey feel, no theme once again its a mishmash but I'd like a more romantic/pottery barn feel.

I used an antique vanity with the mirror taken off. It worked out pretty well. The drawers on one side stored the dvds and videos and the shelves on the other the players.

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by. ~anon

bridget .. do you want to 'hide' the tv .. or do you mind if it's out in the open?

these new flatscreen tv's are so HUGE .. it's hard to hide them. i 'bout rolled over and died when honey hunk wanted a monster-screen size one .. in these TEEEEENSY cabins .. i told him he'd have to sit out in the yard to get far enough away to get a clear picture. But .. he reeeeeeeeeely wanted one .. so .. we just hung it on the wall .. i have a HUGE american flag on the wall behind it .. that when company comes .. i sometimes flip over in front of it.

NOW .. (i'm almost embarrassed to admit that i, too, got one! not quite as large .. cuz the wall wasn't big enough and my little 'sewing/tv' room is about the size of a shoe-box! it, too, is hung on the wall .. i keep threatening to hang a quilt over it to hide it with ... but today i'm actually going to go buy a (ohhhhhhhhhh i'm almost embarrassed to admit it .. in these historic log cabins .. but YESSS! a modern LAZY BOY recliner!!!!) to sit in to sew and watch my tv movies on. it is the smallest they make .. and it is red leather .. so it 'kinda' fits in .. o.k. ..i'm fulla' crap! it's NEW lookin' .. but those beautiful olde rocking chairs i've been sitting in and that HARD-BACKED johnston benchworks love-seats .. give me a BACK-ACHE after sitting in them for a coupla' hours.

in my olde age .. i still very much love my antique furniture .. but i'm sure appreciating 'comfy' on these olde bones too!

if your tv is flat screen .. you can do the little 'flag or quilt' trip. Just hang it BEHIND your tv .. and throw it over the front when you don't want to look at it. If it's a table model .. and you don't mind it showing .. a favorite table would be great .. if you don't want it to show .. maybe have a piece of furniture (box type) built that will be just the size of the tv (plus a little breathing room). be sure to let us know what you do come up with. xo

Oh Frannie, you do make me laugh!

We have an "old fashioned tv" (aka - not a flat screen) in an armoire. I love armoires, and have to admit that we have 4 of them. It wasn't intentional. My husband had built a beautiful one before I ever met him. It sits in our bedroom and serves as a great storage space. The other 3 came from Hekman Furniture - where my husband was an engineer. Two hold TV's, the other, the computer. One is much more beautiful, the other 2, nice and practical. Working for a furniture manufacturer had it's perks. We also have 3 beautiful desks. One is a replica of Charles Dicken's desk.

Oh, shoot, I'm not helping to answer your initial question at all... sorry. A friend of mine just recently took some seemingly "ugly" furniture, lightly sanded it. Used a flat white paint to paint it. Then sanded different edges to give it a nice look. She covered it with a sheer gloss finish - and it is BEAUTIFUL! If you can find a piece of furniture that you think would work well in function, with nice lines - you can totally change the look to make it fit your style (without paying the pottery barn price). I love that style too. Also, have you seen what Ballard Design has to offer?

Blessings,
Ann

Oh, I just had another thought. At my old house, we had the TV sitting on top of a cedar chest. I had a lace/linen cloth that ran the length of the cedar chest, and the TV on top of that.

It seems as though Tony, my husband, had his sitting on top of an old trunk before we married.

Yeah, I like the quilt idea, makes it less sterile. You know how electronics and todays style can look so cold and sterile? I would ideally hide it, but $ is hardly here so I must make do with what we have:) We have an abundance of dressers too. Hmmm I'm gonna look around and play. Might be tough moving stuff from upstairs down. SIGH. Frannie post me a pic please!!!!!!

I'm starting a romantic style blog, pink valley:) Slowly and surely I have found a PASSION!

I;ve purchased a few things from Ballard Designs and the quality is suprisingly good!

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom

How 'bout an antique server or short chest with cabinet rather than drawers. You could take the selves out and put the TV inside. Would be short enough that you could put decor items on top.

We got rid of our big TV and got a flat screen. I was able to purchase a long dresser/table for underneath the tv and put a lot of nice arrangement underneath the tv. I put 2 pictures around the tv and it really has blended into the decore.

Cheers,
Heather

I have a lowboy dresser that I painted creamy white. My flat screen TV is on top of that. It fits in perfectly on my shabby chic/gypsy style theme.
I have fairies all over my house, with little scotties I have picked up. Nothing too overwhelming because I don't want the clutter.
I am starting to get tired of the shabby chic look, and turning more towards the "gypsy" look that suits me.

Don't miss out on a blessing, just because it isn't packaged the way you expected. ~MaryJo Copeland
