Can you feel it? The earth has started it's ponderous course back towards the sun! Soon the snow will melt away and we will be able to dig our fingers into the wet dirt again! Soon we can plant those seeds or seedlings and watch green take over. The breezes will be softer and will smell of growing things and damp earth. I am so excited for spring!!

Yes! I can feel it! Down here in zone 9 our Spring has unofficially started. There is usually only one more cold front that comes through bringing us close to the 30's. But, that doesn't stop me. The high is in the 70's and I would scream if I couldn't get my hands dirty.

Some last minute cool weather annuals have been planted. Pruning on trees and shrubs has begun. All the Fall leaves are being used as mulch. Vegetables that can't take the heat that comes at the end of May are being planted in my garden. Oh my!!! Feb. and March are super busy.
I love it!

Blessings
Catherine

We had rain last night, and the snow is melting in great puddles today.

I loved your post Alee. It makes me think of reading The Secret Garden again. Beautiful!
The way spring arrives is so exciting!
I love the scene where Mary and Dickon are in the garden in early spring and everything is gray and brown, and Mary asks if everything is dead and Dickon gets out his knife and cuts into a rose cane and tells her its 'wick' and the garden will have so many roses she'll be just sick of them. =;-)

Meg- I LOVE that scene too! Infact, when Spring comes and it is still too goopey outside to do anything and the warmth hasn't come back yet, I adore watching "The Secret Garden" movie and "The Little Princess" (for some reason they just seem to go together!)

Have you ever watched those nature videos that are shot in time-lapse photography and the seed sprouts, grows and blooms in about eight seconds? Well, that's what I'm ready for! But first, we need more rain...I'll try to be patient!

I can feel it in the air a bit today. It's cloudy right now but the temps are wonderfully mild. (Supposed to get severe storms later.) I didn't even wear a coat out today, or yesterday either. I'm going to look in the usual places this afternoon to see if tulips or daffadils are starting to peak out a bit. With the mild weather we've had the past few days it wouldn't be too surprising. I've been seeing the start of some budding on trees and bushes. I'm getting excited about getting seeds going and the upcoming growing season!

I love that scene in The Secret Garden, too!! Every time I go to prune something back I do as Dickon did....gotta find that green so I don't cut back too far. I wish I could talk to the animals as he did, too.

I don't believe there is spring in North Idaho!!!
I can't wait to put my Sorels in the closet, and see the creek running. I am excited to see what plants are in my new yard. I see lots of wild roses, but that's all I can identify for now.

My daffodils are up about an inch and so are the tulips. THe strawberries have survived the winter. The catnip grew all winter in a tiny corner sheltered by the porch step. The catnip in back yard died out . But it will come back.

I hear the birds chirping this morning, and I can see bits of the shingles on my neighbor's roof, so I know the snow is melting. The streets are clear for the first time in months, but is going to take a long time for the snow burms put up by the snow plow to melt.

Yesterday at the horse ranch, the snow was so deep the horses have to step UP to get to the outside arena and I was having to push a wheelbarrow up a ramp of snow to dump it in an improvised muck heap. I had to get a running start because some of thos wheelbarrow loads weigh upwards of 200lbs!

I envy you all. We and my spring flowers are under 20+ inches of snow and the temp is almost up to a brisk -4 with a wind chill of only -28. The next week we should see above zero and more snow. Oh for some signs of spring.

It is 6 degrees here and the ground is covered with snow and ice. But I can tell that the days are getting longer, just a bit at a time.

I love the Secret Garden too!
