as many of you know, i recently rescued an older dog. he is having some health issues at the moment that are really puzzling. he isn't eating, i've only been able to get him to drink by holding the water dish in front of him.. and he is just been really acting strange. when i try to move him, he yelps as if he's in pain, and when he does get down off the bed he tends to stare off into space, and he stumbles when he tries to stand at times. i thought at first he was pouting because i scolded him yesterday, because he'd respond to my roommates, but, the walking thing has persisted.. and his eyes are very glassy. we went for a walk just a bit ago so he could use the bathroom, and as soon as we went out the door, he bolted for the street.. something he has never done before, his bowels are not moving, he does urinate, but very little. last night i went to the store and came home to find him laying in his urine..

just got back...... mousie has had a stroke, they aren't sure of a prognosis as of yet, he's in the hospital now. i will keep everyone posted

Oh, Peggie, I am sorry! I just came upon the post, I was about to say that it probably had something to do with his central nervous system. I am wishing you the best!
When I worked at the vet practice, we saw a dog who had suffered a stroke. Despite another vet's recommendation to put the boy down (he was an old Golden Ret.), the couple who adopted him refused and worked with him. He ended up ok, but he always had walking and coordination issues.

Peggy, I did a medical scan when I read this thread just now and I saw a stroke too. Remember to blue-light him. Get your roommates to do it too. As I' ve said a million times, I've seen miracles happen.

It's a basic law of physics that everything in the Universe is made up of vibrations, vibrating according to their own density (or frequency). We can use certain vibrations to benefit us.
For example, the vibration of healing and peace is blue. You will see lots of blue in hospitals, in jails where they want people to be quiet, around the Blessed Mother, and so on. We can use that vibration to heal ourselves and our pets.
Just visualize your pet (or person) and surround him in blue light. See it go through him and around him and in him, especially where the problem is. At the same time, give thanks for his abundant good health and the perfect functioning of every part of his body. Do this until your intuition tells you it's enough, do it often, get others to do it with you.
At the very least, he'll feel a lot better. You can be skeptical if you want, but like chicken soup, it can't hurt and you might be pleasantly surprised.

update on mousie......... he is doing so much better today, and will be home in a day or two, he is eating, had a huge bm by his standards, and is so much more responsive. i know he will have changed some, but i'm sure that once he is home he'll do so much better. a little love goes a long way.

with a stroke their unusual behavior can come on so suddenly it is scary. They can act like they cannot see, don't know where they are, get mean, see what the vet can do. I will pray for your little dog. I am sorry for you.

| We lost our dog Buddy this past fall. He would have been 17 human years. He had a stroke and while it took him a while, he did pretty good. We had very low expectations for him just as you would an elderly person. When he chose to stand with his head in the corner because he was confused about how he got there, we would gently get him turned in the right direction. While never quite 'right', he had some jolly days before he finally died and was pretty sweet. He had some episodes of forgetting to wait to go outside to pee and we realized we needed to give him extra consideration for those kind of things and take him out more frequently, etc. You're being very kind by taking in an oldster and giving him a chance to recover. |

well, we are home, but not without our share of problems. he won't drink out of his dish, so i am giving him water through a syringe, but other than that he is doing pretty well. he has some days that are better than others, but i feel i'd rather let him spend the rest of his time here at home being loved and cared for.
he's had a rough ole life, and i want the rest of it to be so much better for him.

My dear old arthritic dog responded very well to a natural product called DGP (Dog Gone Pain). It may not fix all ills, but it seemed to ease aches & add a bit of pep.

a quick update..... mousie has done remarkably well. he is back to his old self, playing from time to time, and just as loving as ever. he eats and drinks on his own again, goes potty, and runs after the other dogs that are here.. he did get used to all the extra babying tho, so now i have a very spoiled dog on my hands.. and i don't mind a bit.
