Would anyone else be interested in knitting or crocheting some artful caps for Julia Hayes little girl Aria? She is undergoing chemotherapy now. The extra caps that Julia receives can be donated to the PICU at the hospital where Aria is having her treatment.
Here's a link to some pictures of Aria: http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16603 A link to the Family Matters topic Julia is updating on.. http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16878
I am finding out what her favorite colors are as well as sizing but feel free to look at the cap patterns out there that are for 2 to 5 year olds. What doesn't fit Aria will definitely be enjoyed by another child.
From what I'm reading an adult cap (20-22") will fit her..most patterns are saying what the measurements are and the ones that are not are saying an age range.
I really believe that personal Farmgirl packages from all of us will be very uplifting. That way she and Aria can enjoy surprise mail along the way. Then Julia and Aria can make personal donations with the extras that she receives. Kind of like a "pay it forward" effect!
Involvement as of Saturday evening, January 26th:
*queenofdreamsz4u ~ Stephanie (crochet) *utahfarmgirl ~ Patricia (working on a special doll) *holiday angel ~ Pauline *therusticcottage ~ Kay (knitting) *tammyclaxton ~ Tammy (crochet) *mikesgirl ~ Sherri (donating one of her crocheted brim hats!) *auntjenny ~ Jenny *yarnmamma ~ Linda (crochet) *plumcreekmama ~ Heather (sewing a cap & a yo-yo doll) *lilyblossom ~ Donna (knitting) *Stephany ~ Kay's daughter (knitting) *peggysue ~ Peggy *queenbee ~ Mary Jane & *cabin-creek kentucky ~ Frannie....Mary Jane adopted one of Frannie's dollies to send to Aria

Girl, you're going to get me knitting again! Does St. Jude's have any simple patterns they use?

Hats are very simple to make but it would be nice to know the age and size and I know she would have as many hats or whatever she could use. Maybe even the hospital just in case we don't have it listed. When my daughter went through chemo and lost her hair she wore caps for a bit then decided she loved going without them. She has kept her beautiful red hair short since. Anyway, when she was through she decided to re-donate her caps again to the cancer society. Just give a size or whatever and we will see what we can do for her and others in her hospital if they would like! Bless all, Pauline

I'm in! I'll wait for the size and where to send them. Shoot me an e-mail if you prefer. Mine will be crocheted hats - I can't knit! I know there are some way cool sites that have tons of chemo cap patterns. I'll start checking them out again. Thanks for thinking of this!

I'm finding out the size fir Aria but I know there are alot of general sized patterns for different ages. I believe she is 4 years old but you know how that goes..I'd rather get a measurement. I was planning for us to send Julia all the caps/hats and then she can donate the extras to the PIUC where Aria is having treatment. But since Pauline has chimed in maybe we can send some to St. Judes in Memphis too!
I'll let you know what I find out or maybe someone that already knows her size will post...but there are tons of free cap patterns for kids all over the internet. Pauline do you have any patterns on your site?

Yes, I already posted the request on our forum and will be sending other items along with them. I believe we have donated to St Jude's in Memphis before only for a different cause. Will send them where ever the need is. I will seek more patterns if you like for making these hats. We are considering making crocheted angels and bracelets for the parents and children as well just to hold while away from each other. Guess I get a bit carried away but I believe it would be hard for a child to not have something to hold onto or look at while being separated from their loved ones. To look at at night or something. Sorry! Love those little ones!! This would be age appropriate and at the hospitals discretion of course. Hugs, Pauline

Stephanie,
I will knit some hats for Aria and some to be donated to other children. Does Aria have a specific color that she really likes? Let me know where to send the hats.

Hey Y'all,
I've got the address now. I thought everyone could mail what they make to me and then I'll mail one package to Julia. Let me know if that's ok with you.
Give me an idea on a deadline. I kind of wanted this to be a relaxing thing for the do-er but at the same time get Aria and others what they may enjoy. As of right now her hair is all intact but it will start to thin and then go away. Pauline has an idea of how that evolves I know.
Anyway, just post a reply and give me your thoughts on how you'd like to proceed. I'll work it anyway y'all want to. After all, the mission is to get the stuff made and delivered however we want to do it....some of you may want to mail yours seperately to Julia.
That's fine too...main thing here is to guard her mailing address should I give it out (in an email only)...just never post the address anywhere on the forums
I know the cap patterns on Bev's website are sized for 2-4 years and then there is one that is 5-8 year old..until I get the exact measurements I think we should search for more caps that are for a 4 year old size..
Of course, any that don't fit just right surely will fit another child. So while I await measurements (if Julia can find the time to do it) we can go on and start making some caps.
I'll post links to good looking caps as I find them.
Thanks so much, Stephanie www.dreamkingdomdesigns.blogspot.com www.dreamkingdomdesigns.com www.queenofdreamsz.blogspot.com

Dearest Frannie,
Aria already got one of your dollies all wrapped up in your love. It was one we adopted from you just for her apparently!

Alright, where ever we send it just email me an address and also if you would like some hats donated in her name to a hospital send me the address of a hospital. We would love to share her love and encouragement to others. Yes, I am very aware of this struggle but also know the joy of the completion of the process. My daughter was 28 with stage three breast cancer and two children, but is a survivor and still on some of the treatment as it hasn't been so long. Tech has come a long way and she worked most of the time she went through the treatments as I sat by her side while they were doing them at the hospital. It is a hard thing to watch no matter how old your daughter or child. Just send the addresses and we will send whatever we can!! God bless, Pauline

Hey Everyone,
I've made a list at the first post on this topic with everyone's names and if you are crocheting or knitting or whatever else has been mentioned.
Please read it to let me know if you are in or out on this..got a few question marks by a few names..didn't want to assume anything where you didn't actually say.
Post here or email me...
Talk to ya later, Stephanie www.dreamkingdomdesigns.blogspot.com www.dreamkingdomdesigns.com www.queenofdreamsz.blogspot.com
