Ok, I just can't keep this in any longer...my son is in his senior year in high school and will be going to university in the fall. He sent in his applications just before Christmas, and he was notified last week that Carleton University in Ottawa is offering him early acceptance, and a generous academic scholarship!! He's applied to their engineering program. He's so happy, hasn't come down off Cloud 9 yet!

Carleton is a 5 hour drive from home, so I won't see him much, but it's a great school, and Ottawa is a very safe city (our nation's capital). We know lots of people whose kids went there, and loved it!

I'm still not ready to see him leave, though, he's been such a wonderful son. He has wonderful marks at school, too, and makes me laugh every day. We've been very blessed. I'd better stop now, I'll cry.

Just had to share this happy news with you all!

Lori

How wonderful! You should be super proud of your son! Good luck to him when he begins his new adventure! I'm sure he'll be home a lot on weekends for some of mom's cooking & with tons of laundry.

Update:

I can't believe this today! My son, Greg, had applied for a local scholarship from a construction firm, and we hadn't heard anything yet. Graduation is June 26, so I thought they might be waiting to announce it at the ceremony. Today, my son's vice-principal came in to the library where I work and said, "Isn't it wonderful about the scholarship news! Greg won!"

This is a big deal; this scholarship was being offered to students at 6 different area high schools. (and it's for $1000)

Apparently he found out yesterday, but never said anything last night!!! I was shocked, but happy! So now, do I pretend I don't know?

Doing the happy dance right now, but have to contain myself when I get home!

Lori,
I know exactly what you mean. I have 4 boys - two out of the home. My oldest is in the Marine Corp 900 plus miles away and My second born is stationed on the US Coast Guard Cutter the eagle - But stationed in New London CT. (a whole world away). Missing them doesnt get any easier.. but somehow you find a way to adjust.. a little at a time.... I am finding that boys always seem to need thier mom... I love it when they call for cooking hints or washing instructions or.. whatever...... So while the Apron Strings certainly are looser... they arent "cut"....

Congratulations Lori, it is wonderfull for him and yes, Ottawa is a wonderfull city. I will ask my stepson Tom if he can meet with Greg in august, he goes himself to Hull/Gatineau college, which is not very far from Carleton. Wouldn't that be fun for them to become buddies ?
Big hugs to you.
