I am watching a History Channel show called "Life after People"

It is really intersting talking about how fast the world will decay after people disappear one day. They make it sound horrible, but I am sitting here thinking "huh! I bet that would help the environment!!" and "Yay! The animals will come back into their own!" LOL I am such a species traitor! LOL

Yes, I finally had to go to bed. It is really interesting, especially when they started showing the town and area around Chernobyl. I am one of those geeky girls that loved to watch the science videos like this in school, so I like it when I find good ones on TV.

but wilma, not everyone-even here on this forum-believe the bible to be what others believe it to be....

I think I am with you Alee...species traitor...humans are like a virus...consume all resources until the life forum hosting is depleted and dies...yep, I am certainly proud to be a virus! LOL! At this point and the way our planet is suffering, that is in effect what we are to her...a virus.

It's pretty amazing that from such horrible destruction (Chernobyl) there now comes life. The "Life Without People" explained that the initial radioactive destruction killed off all wildlife, trees, and plants within the "Crisis zone". But now, a little over 20 years later, the trees are re-taking the whole area, grass and vines and flowers are growing everywhere. The endangered Red Deer has the highest population around the Chernobyl area than anywhere else, same for wild boar.

I think it is because no one really wants to go to the Chernobyl area and certainly they don't want to hunt and eat any animal that makes it their home, so that animals get a sanctuary.

Some people have said that her motorcycle rides are a hoax, but the pictures are cool. Maybe a bit too upsetting for some, but I find them interesting none the less.

It is important to remember that people are just one of millions upon millions of species in this world. We have wonderful religious traditions that all address how to care for the earth and it's other inhabitants but the problem is that most people forget those directives and assume their actions will not significantly influence the course of ecology. There are dire consequences for those actions- many of them outlined in the bible and other texts. There have been 5 major extinctions in the earth's past- all caused by physical events- we are now in the 6th extinction phase which is significantl;y different because it is the only one to have a biotic (us) cause. I am a deeply religious person and I cringe at the disregard people show for the natural processes that we are a part of and that have shaped who we are. If'n you're interested here is a link to a short article by Niles Eldridge from the American Museum of Natural History

Miss Wilma-
I too believe the Bible but what I think that the show was pointing out is what life would be like if people were to disappear. Sometimes it is fun to imagine things but I don't know if the show was talking about it really happening or just a "what if".

Exactly Lorie, we are supposed to be caretakers and stewards, not predators and destroyers. I firmly believe in caretaking the earth and all of its inhabitants. You can be pro-eco and green and still be a Christian. I'm very spiritual but I don't belong to any one religion or church. I DO think we should all be concerned about the earth that we all live on, regardless of our religious beliefs. We all need to take care of it.

I don't have TV, but I "Get" the idea of what the show is about
