Hey farmgirl! Any of you have some fiber you want to barter? I love to spin, and can use pretty much any sort of fiber: wool, alpaca, llama, mohair, angora, silk, you name it. :)

What I have to barter: anything from my herb shop http://www. prairielandherbs.com, or my etsy store: http://www.girlwithasword.etsy.com....:)

Thanks farmgirls!

I can certainly fix you up with some Icelandic wool if you don't mind raw that you will have to wash and comb. I don't have any that is washed on hand right now. I have one moorit (chocolate brown) and one black fleece for sure that I can send some of.

I have only ever seen one quart with writing on it and that found a home in Florida already- but I can get you as many of the plain ones as you want! Wide or narrow mouth?

LOL! I love all this farmgirl bartering. :) Alee is this to be your first spinnign project? how cool! Do you have a wheel, or a drop spindle?

Aunt Jenny, I LOVE LOVE LOVE icelandic, and I don't mind the processing. I especially love naturally colored fleeces! oh, I'm so excited. Let me know what you'd want to barter for? I will take as much wool as you wnt off your hands. Seriously. :)

You know what..I will get some boxes made up for you gals over the weekend..and you can just surprize me with what you think is a good barter...I will love anything you send. Could you both email me your adresses? I KNOW I have yours around here somewhere Alee..but it will be quicker just to get it again. I really need to get a notebook and get organized about things like that. I am loving that you will be spinning up some of my girl's wool!!!
Maggie..I am so glad you like Icelandic..it is my favorite for sure...so versatile!!

I don't have either, but I have friends that have both, so I will probably try it on both a wheel and a drop spindle and see which one I am better at! This is so exciting! :D

My company (my Uncle is here visiting from Colorado) won't be leaving until Sunday morning, but I will sure try to get boxes ready to mail out on Monday if I can...Tues at the latest. I just got some perfect boxes today. Usually I have a hard time finding good size boxes..but husband brought home a stack of boxes all the same size...so I am all set that way!!

Hey there Jenny and all

I was just wondering if you have Shetland sheep since you mentioned moorit wool. I have 6 ewes and a ram and a wether in assorted natural colors. They are hopefully all pregnant and I will be shearing them in late Feb. I've never done this before on this scale (small for some I guess, but a lot for me). I will want to process or store (?) the wool for spinning. Some for my self and some to market. Any advice in this area would be great. Should I start a new thread?

Luna-

You might get more replies if you post your question under "Barnyard Buddies" some people only read certain sections of the forum. I will be looking for replies as I don't know anything about this either!

My sheep are Icelandic Luna...alot like Shetland really, a little bigger and not quite as soft..but a primitive breed the same and they have the same look.I have only had as many as 10 sheep at a time, but there are several gals here who would know more about marketing wool..good luck..arn't shetlands cute???

Thanks Alee and Jenny

I will post over at the Barnyard Buddies. Yes the Shetlands are cute and very sweet, even the ram nuzzles up to ya before he buts you! Good luck on the spinning. It really is fun and satisfying and no need for perfection unless you want to.

I like to separate it into the two types of fiber (called tog and thel) the outer coarser coat and the downy undercoat, and then spin separatly...the thel..undercoat..is soft enough for baby things! and the outer coat is wonderful for needlepoint yarn or where tougher stuff is needed. Or..I spin it combined and like you said..great felt or great sock yarn I have found too.
