I am thinking I should have used bigger needles because this is going to take forever use a lot of yarn, but it will be a really warm scarf once I am done!

That looks good so far Alee, the tighter the knit the warmer the scarf so that could be a good thing.

I like the color you chose,
I think the smaller needles will be a more tighter knit that say a large knitting needles.
I like to use both in my projects.
I haven't tried the really bigger ones yet. Pinkroses

These are I think size 15? They say 5mm on the end of the needle. Thanks for the compliments! I work on it a little bit each night. It's slow going because the needles are so thin.
And yes, it's Lion Homespun. My favorite yarn that I can buy. I would love to have some real homespun yarn though!

I was working with Lion HOmespun at a show one time and a couple of ladies came up to me and said they thought it was one of the hardest yarns to work with - because it's loopy and splits. Maybe that was part of the problem you were having Alee.

looks great! 5mm is a size 8...pretty slow gong for a first project, but you'll make it. my favorite needles are a size 35. i use them with 6-8 strands of worsted to make some pretty funky scarves that knit super fast.

| Alee, it looks terrific, and after a few more nights of working along, you will all of a sudden look down at it and think "Whoa this thing is REALLY moving along"! I love Lion Brand homespun too. My first knitting project in 2003 after a lapse of about 25 years after having knit my first scarf and a coupla baby blankets, was what turned out to be a BIG rectangular shawl with Homespun: the gal at the Michael's counter looked at me like I must also be a fire eater at the carnival in my spare time, for starting off with that yarn because people complained and even returned their unused skeins because of the problems Sherri cited. I "enthusiastically" (read "insanely") cast on about 150 stitches (on size 8 needles also), I kid you not, and that shawl took 5 skeins and a month of my life but I cannot tell you the compliments I get whenever someone sees it. It is gorgeous and warm to boot! Keep those needles clicking, gal pal! This scarf is only the beginning I predict! Hugs, Nance |

Wow Nance! 5 Skeins of yarn? I hope this one doesn't take that much as it is prety expensive for yarn. But I like the looks of it. I wouldn't mind a sweater made out of it actually! :D
I worked on it last night as I watched some documentaries on TV so is about double what it was. I find that the more I knit the easier it gets. Both from experience and a bigger project is easier to handle.
Those first couple of rows are devilish though!
And Jonni-
You are right about ripping it out and starting over. It certainly makes you get better quickly- if for no other reason than sheer frustration! LOL

| Yessirree, gal pal! I told you it was a really big shawl. I love the Homespun skeins because I can get a nice sized scarf, complete with fringe, out of just one skein. And I almost never buy yarn without a discount coupon, or unless it is already on sale!! Happy knitting!! Nance |

Well the scarf is about double if not triple what it was in that photo. I am enjoying some quiet knitting time each evening. :D I will update the photo soon!

WOw Alee, I counted about 28 stitches on your needles, so it will take lots of yarn, if you use bigger needles you r scarf will be bigger with that many stitches. I mostly use size 11 to 13 needles and put 14 to 16 stitches on depending on the yarn. it will be nice and warm , good luck
Corrine: your too funny,size 35 needles? WOW you must put on like 4 stitches
I may have to try that!

This is how far I have gotten so far... About halfway done so far!
From when I first started:
Can you see the line in it? Grr... dyelots changed so my scarf is going to be silly looking. I might try to dye it after I am done but I don't think acrylic takes dye very well...
