Okay- It looks like I am getting better at this whole knitting thing! I have about an inch of my scarf done (I am using 5mm needles) and so far the 28 stitches that I started with is what I have on my needle right now.
One thing I have realized that I like about knitting is that you can see how many stitches you have, whereas with crochet you have to count in your head. I still don't see how people knit without looking at what they are doing though!!
Help please! I am trying to learn knitting, and I think I have casting on and the basic knit stitch down...but I keep picking up extra stitches!! How? I just am trying to make a scarf- not a half circle shawl!! LOl

Alee, I think its in the wrapping your knit stitch or your picking up when your pulling your stitch through. Try slowing down alittle bit. I hope this helps you.

I seem to be doing better now- its just those first few rows that are tricky. I am still not sure what I was doing- maybe not droping the stich after pulling through?

Alee, I did it too. My first scarf actually looked like a triangle shawl!!!! Just don't "knit" the last stitch under, wrap and put the loop over onto the other needle. Don't pull it through.
For the first few scarfs, I had to count every row or so to make sure.
