I think I am teaching myself to knit with the help of some websites...I will update you to tell you how my first row goes. I have the casting on row done...

Alee, just so you know, the first knit row is always the suckiest. Still, even after I've been knitting my little hands off, it's really hard to do.
So, keep going! And, what helped me was knitting a for time, then ripping it out, taking it off the needles and casting on and beginning again. I started a scarf, and halfway through realized that I only knew how to "go forward"...I didn't know how to cast on anymore, and I certainly didn't know how to bind off!
It really helped me to do it over and over until it just felt natural.

Alee, I agree with nitere. That is a GREAT site, I belong to it. The videos are very easy to learn from. I learned to knit and purl backwards from that site, saves time when having to turn around a lot lol.

I found that when I went to learn a new stitch, I would forget how to do the old one I had
learned previously....but putting it down, and then picking it up again helped me to remember. Plus, I started to use the alphabet way to remember how to do knit, then how
to do purl. Knit begins with the letter 'K', next letter in alphabet is 'L', and L is for 'left'.
So, Knit left of stitch - then began thinking, knitting got left behind. So then purl
is opposite of that, purls right in front of my nose. It just helped to have something
to remember which is which. Practice helps you remember the rest. Good luck with
your knitting - its relaxing and therapeutic for me. And, its fun to try and learn new
things. |
