What lotions do you use for Winter's Rough, Dry Cold Hands? I need something, walking to and from the barn, washing dishes, ect.

I make my own lotion that is super thick and nourishing. Mix about 3 ounces of beeswax, 5 ounces of vitamin e oil, essential oil of your choice (I do lavender), and enough olive oil to make it smooth and spreadable. Olive oil is great for skin, as is beeswax and vitamin e oil. This really helps when I have been washing my hands a lot or out in the cold. It takes few minutes to fully absorb in.

The best thing I have found is 100% pure lanolin. Lanolin is one of the few things that cells will actually absorb (so I read anyway). I just know it works almost immediately. I bought my last tube of it in the baby section of the drug store, intended for breast feeding moms! :)

Coconut oil is good...as well as olive oil. Anything w/ a beeswax and/or Shea butter base is good too.

Farmgirl Missy at Lamarguite Farms (misspelled, I know, but I haven't had my coffee yet,
makes an incredible hand salve that takes care of dry, chapped hands like you wouldn't believe. Let me see if I can fin a link.
It is TOTALLY the best! She has an etsy store. Missy, you out there??

One of the things I found that helped, regardless of the lotion, was to smear a thick layer of lotion on and then slid my hands into a pair of thick cotton socks. As your hands warm up and the pores open the lotion is absorbed really well. This also works on feet. It's kinda like a mini spa treatment.

YES! Lanolin!

I bought some from Common Sense Farm over the internet.

Problem is, I forget to take it to work w/ me, so right now my hands are dry and rough too.

I also like Burt's Bees healing salve and their Sweeet Almond hand cream.

I hose animal stall every a.m. so the constant wet and exposure to harsh cleaning chemicals gets old quick!

I wear rubber gloves, but hands are still rough due to lots of hand washing this time of year anyway.

If you have the time and $$ look into one of those nice parafin hand soakers. After cold days outside, these are so nice.

While milking goats, I learned that udder cream is the best. It is cheap and effective.

My holistic doctor got me hooked on something called Renew. It has a bunch of tea tree oil in it, and I don't know what else. But the thing that's amazing to me is it doesn't make you slimy! You can even get wet and you don't get that slimy feeling. She's seen people use it on babies' faces that have exzema, and it clears it right out. Safe enough for a little baby's face, plus her recommendation, and it's good enough for me. I loff it!
