Tina, you are not a softy---well maybe--just sentimental and human. What a nice find for you and even though it is not your grandmother's, like you said, second best is darn good. MB

The way I look at it, it was meant to be...even though it's not the one your Grandmother had. That was a special memory in your life and how nice that you found it...or it found you...lol! Very cool!

I am too actually..silly me..I couldn't even sleep last night..hoping I'd win the auction on them..ha. Now..I just hope they get across the ocean safely to me..as they are coming from somewhere near England.(smiles)Funny..I had looked before for these and never been able to find them...so I am delighted for sure.

Was this the same granny who had the fan? Maybe the shell was also brought from the orient--that would explain the scarcity here.

I'm glad you found it. I always try to grab things up that remind me of folks I love and miss.

yes, it was hers...the granny that had the fan.:0) and yes..I think it came along with the other oriental items..she also had a japanese lacquered jewelry box with painted scene on the top..very pretty..anyhow...
...actually she was the only granny I knew.:0)she lived with us from a little before I was born ....she came to live with my parents because her husband had died and she suffered an aneurysym in her mid 40's and had to have brain surgery...and then had to relearn how to talk.So she had always lived with us .
She was a real precious granny. She passed away 2 weeks after my last child was born..3 years ago.
I was not allowed to visit her when I was pregnant with my child because she had MRSA and the doctors told me no way were they giving me permission to go be around her when she had the MRSA..they said I would have had to suit up from head to toe..and then burn my clothes after leaving the house.(their words)
So..anyhow..I did get to talk to her on the phone before she passed and she saw pictures on the computer of my baby girl..and she said about my baby..cause she was the biggest baby I had(nearly 9 lbs.).."my that's a big one"..ha.
She was a real special woman.

I'm so happy for you! My mom's still searching for a cookie jar like her grandmothers. After she passed it got broken when they cleaned out her house. My mom loves to bake and still talks about the cookie jar. I'm glad to hear that it is possible to have a second chance at sentimental item.
