I start swimming lessons with the youngest of the boys at my new nanny job Monday. Question "What would you use to wash the huge amounts of chlorine on your body from the pool off with?" I have very sensitive skin so this will not be good for it. Any suggestions on lotion to apply after or maybe before to help? I can feel the dry, itchy skin already. I hope he learns to swim alone quickly.

I have always used the Vaseline Intesive Care lotion but the cheapo Walmart kind when I swam alot (It is the white bottle Vaseline one, I think it is unscented or sensitive...they keep changing the dern name!! ). I know you are supposed to rinse off before swimming, but that seemed to leave just enough to keep me from drying out. Then I showered and re-applied liberally. I also like Banana Boats After Sun Car- it is in a clear bottle but the lotion is yellow. Works fantastic!! I also rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar, then wash with a gentle shampoo followed by a repairative conditioner.
Cheers, Heather |

I have dry skin and excema, when I swam I used Eucerin before I went in, it protected me and I did pretty good. I think the Vasoline one is a great idea too. Carol Sue

Thank you for your suggestions. I used some generic Cetephil that I had in the cupboard. Worked like a charm and it did not make me to slippery either. Put it on it the morning before I went to work to give it some time to soak in. I do need to put an extra heavy conditioner in my hair to keep that from drying out too. I have used all of the above for my two youngest during swim lessons. They both have very fair sensitive skin. The Cold winter weather gets their hands really dry too...for that I use bag balm..it really helps more than anything. We liked Gold bond lotion for after swimming too.

My friend that is a lifeguard told me that the best thing you can do for your skin and hair to not smell like chlorine, and to stay hydrated, is to take a shower before you go in. So then you absorb regular water and not the pool water into your skin. I used to swim four days a week, and it really helped a lot. Make sure to rinse off in the locker room before you start for home. Using cocoa butter/body butter is helpful afterward. I even used a cocoa butter soap. Once a week I would use cholesterol on my hair, found at beauty supply. Trish
