Hi ya'll!
I'm a farmgirl with a dream to get back to the farm....we live in town but that doesn't stop me from keeping bees in the back yard, angora bunnies (gotta have some animal with fur I can spin since sheep are not an option), and a modest garden. Oh, I also have 3 daughters aged 4, 13, and 16, and a Rolfer for a hubbie. My interests have led me to teaching in a Waldorf school, where I teach knitting, spinning, embroidery, and crocheting, and also music to elementary children, and teach a parent-child class. Waldorf early childhood teachers are no strangers to aprons, so it's nice to see the apron love here!
I sew a LOT and lately have forbidden myself from buying any new clothes...they must be thrifted or created. I can tell you it is FUN to do that. I am also trying hard to reduce my dependency on plastic and I'm in search of a recipe/tips for doing without shampoo. Other than that, it's nice to know how you mothers out there dealt with your teenaged daughters.
Hope this isn't TMI!

As far as advice for a teen-age daughter...if you pray...pray.
It does get better. in fact, they will even tell you they love you and like magic will turn into beautiful young ladies.

Greetings from southern Kentucky. I was very lucky with my teenage daughter, she cared more about horses and four-wheelers than she did boys, but I also worked very hard at giving her the space she needed. Other than that, as mentioned before, prayer is a good thing.

Welcome...you are in good company ....lots of Kentucky gals here.
I always have a couple angora rabbits too...had 28 at one time..right now only one and my girls have a little jersey wooly guy too. I hope to get more again sometime.
You will just love this group and will fit right in..
as for teenaged daughters...I have three grown boys and the oldest of my 4 kids still at home is a 13 year old girl. I know I am very lucky..she is a wonderful young lady and so helpful..but every once it awhile I get that attitude and "the look" from her and get a taste of what people talk about with teenaged girls. I alway hear it passes like everything else..so I am hanging in there. I have an 11 year old daughter too, so I have few more years to get through with teenaged girls too. (well, and two boys right there too...)
TMI..never..we chat like crazy here!!

Hi ya girl from the Bluegrass!!! I'm also a Kentucky girl, living in a little bedroom community south of Cincinnati, Ohio--we have a nice garden and rain barrels and try to accomplish many of the things you do....no kids, though, just 4 dogs and 3 cats. Jenny's right, you'll fit right in, here.
I'd like to learn a little more about the Waldorf school, if you please :)

Hi there and welcome to the board! I'm just the road from ya. Lots of KY folks on here. :) I have never heard of the Waldorf school. Definitely tell us more if you get the chance. Sounds very interesting!

To learn about Waldorf schools...ours is www.waldorflouisville.org, and there is also whywaldorfworks.org. It's a cutting edge way to educate children, in the sense that they truly learn. The whole premise is that children are not empty buckets waiting to be stuffed full of things they soon forget, but that they have intrinsic knowledge and capacities and the teacher's job is to provide experiences where this knowledge is drawn forth. The education goes deep and is living, meaningful. Very cool stuff.
Where are all you Kentucky Farmgirls? I'm in Louisville...are there ever any farmgirl potlucks? Knit-alongs? Spittin' contests?

Welcome to the farm. I'm a transplanted KY farmgirl who lives in southwest IN now. I am in Louisville every 3 months for doctor appts. for my 9 yr old. Maybe we could meet up sometime. Does your school offer tours?

I'm in Versailles, just west of Lexington. Maybe we can try to have a gathering come spring time when the threat of snow passes (then again it has snowed in May here before!). We have a farmgirl chapter out of Nicholasville that we're working on a meeting date to meet up.
I looks like we got more folks here in the central part of the state than far west and far east of the state. I would highly recommend Berea with their Artisan Center if everyone would like to meet up. It's right off the interstate and would be a 'midpoint' for our folks and right in the middle of the craft capital of the world! :)

I agree Berea would be a great meeting up place. My husband and I went there yesterday and went through the shoppes that were open in Olde Town. They have some beautiful things there.

I'm in Northern Kentucky, near Florence. We're about an hour and a half from Louisville and go there frequently--we eat at Lilly's, on Bardstown Road (I KNOW, EVERYTHING is on Bardstown Road!!!), but it's our favorite night out.
Janice (Miss Bee Haven) is from Louisville, also. She's also got a farm in Irvine, across the state a bit.
