Cant wait til spring :) I brought home a load of manure and sawdust mix from work. I am converting a different - new area of yard into raised bed gardens and this is my base. Still gotta bring home alot more over the winter and spread . I like the raised beds cause i hate to weed :) I got my first seed catalog in the mail yesterday too. I love to look at them. I buy my seed and plants locally though
Oh yeah! As soon as the New Year starts it is Spring as far as I am concerned. Of course the weather says different. Primroses are in the stores already--TOO SOON--but they look pretty. MB
I'm kind of the same. I can't stand the dreary wet raw cold part of winter, so as soon as the snow is gone, I'm ready for spring. I'm going to do the layered "Lasagna" garden thing this year and hopefully get a few steps ahead of the weeds =)
I like the layered lasagna type too. I put down thick layer of cardboard that i saved up and then i will put about a foot of the sawdust and manure mix. I have alot of poke root and poison ivy that would grow all thru the garden area if i didnt do the raised beds. Primroses are so pretty .:)
hey lorie ! YOu won one of the prizes on the giveaway last month --if you email me your mailing addy i will send it to ya . witchycime@msn.com I put good inch of cardboard down and is does the job for me.
I can't wait either. I have all my seeds and supplies at the ready - and I have gardening shoes now too, found on sale at Sam's club. Comfortable too, I've been caught wearing them in public! (eep)
I'm going to try to start geraniums tomorrow. The seed packet says 11-12 weeks before last frost, so that would be now in my area. Black eyed-susans can be started now too, shame they will not bloom this year but next, they will be sweet. And I'm going to try to start echinacea purpurea now too, though I don't expect to see life until spring (refrigerating the planted seeds for a few weeks so they "think" they had a winter).
