Right now our plans are to visit with a couple that we live next door to when we first got married. (30+yrs ago) They kinda took us "under their wing". I was a very young bride and she taught me a lot. We plan on making a small basket! What better way to bring in the New Year, right?
My husband may have to work late today and tomorrow so I am just hoping we get to go.

Hey Joy, Happy New Year! We don't have any plans--and that's a good thing! My husband is a bartender and has always worked on New Years eve, so we're taking FULL advantage of a night at home and a day off tomorrow. Hope you get to complete your plans!

Joy, we were supposed to go to my best friend's MIL house for a holiday celebration but I haven't heard anything about that in a few days and the plans weren't really firm. If we don't go there my hubby and I will probably just have snacks and watch Dick Clark's New Year program. We do that most years anyway. I might make some chili for tonight as the temps are supposed to drop and we are expecting snow. Tomorrow we'll have black eyed peas and cabbage as usual.

Hey Lainey--Chili sounds good--it's sunny here, but I sure wish we were expecting snow, too!!! We're only about an hour and a half north of you!!!
Happy New Year!

Jonni, you might get some too. I just checked the weather channel online for here and they have a special weather statement out for winds, some snow (maybe an inch!), and very chilly temps for the next couple of days. It's funny because today it's supposed to get into the 50s. I hope you have a Happy New Year! You know my hubby and I come to the Northern Kentucky/Cinci area several times a year. Maybe we could meet up?

Cross fingers about the snow, then! I would love to meet up, Elaine, you just name the day and I'll make it work. Even if we just met for lunch during my work day or for dinner after, it would sure be great!!!!

Tonight we're having some farmgirls - an older couple from down the road, and a few friends - over for hors' d' oeuvres (did I massacre the spelling of that?!?!?) and a big outdoor bonfire. We do it each New Years eve - it's sort of an open festival when the fire starts. Then we all write down things we'd like to leave behind with the old year and throw them into the fire - it's really fun and festive, because the fire's big and warm, and the outside is cold and dark. AND, it's at our place, so I can keep an eye on my sleeping little ones. I'm really excited!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Jonni, I'm pretty sure we are heading up that way the weekend of St. Patrick's Day in March. We usually take a short road trip then. We might even head up before. We like to go to Fairfield, Ohio to Jungle Jim's market. Fredrik, my husband, likes to stock up on the Swedish food there. I'll contact you when I know for sure. It will be great meeting you!

Libbie, that's a great idea about writing things down to leave behind and throwing them in the fire! I'd like to borrow that tradition.

My DH and I will be spending the evening with my oldest son home on leave and his girlfriend from CA. First a day of Antiquing and thrift storing. (She loves it) and then a quite dinner and snacks here at home. My son and I will cook together which is always a blast as the cast iron skillets will be a tossing, the grill will be a grilling along with a glass of wine. He was planning Lamb but has decided on Fillets wrapped in smoked bacon, aspergrass (?) with red wine and raisins sauce and garlic smashed potatoes. He has inherited my love of cooking and someday my pots and pans, all 100 of them. Then New Years evening to my sisters house where my sister and her DH, my brother and his girlfriend along with my mom, dad and DH will dine as my brothers cooks a meal of surf and turf along with sides dishes of delite.
Happy New Years!

I love, it, too, and I love the idea of another farmgirl doing it! It adds some sort of "solidity" to resolutions, I think. AND, it's really fun!

We usually go to my hubby's kinfolks and sing karaokee, but we did that the other night. I think we may get up with a couple of my cousins and play cards. I've only been "out" one time for NYE and it was for a concert many years ago down at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

Tomorrow is my hubby's birthday, so usually we go out to eat or make it a special day for him. I still got to go and get him something for his birthday!! EEK!!

Happy New Year to all of you, I hope 2008 is filled with good health, happiness and love for each and every one of you. We will be staying home tonight and having a nice steak dinner and just an easy relaxing evening. A nice ending for 2007. All of you have a great time with all of your plans for celebrating !

we are doing a big spread of snacks and hope to have a bonfire if the wind dies down. We have a bonfire tradition too but have never done the burning thing. I will be blogging about our snacks later on. Also look for a post about our new years day meal. Both with recipes! Oh yeah I forgot to say my MIL and her best friend Judy will be joining us this evening.

We are having clam chowder in bread bowls tonight and watching movies..just our little family, and we are letting the 4 kids TRY to stay up until midnight...they range in age from 10 to 13 so it is iffy if the two youngest will make it. We will have popcorn and homemade lemonade too. Yum!! I am going to work on embroidering my farmgirl sisterhood patch while we watch.
Tomorrow we have family coming over..we are barbquing marinated turkey breast filets (local thing...this is a turkey farm area) and having our blackeyed peas and cornbread, and other goodies that my sister in laws will bring over. and a birthday brownie cake for my sister in law who had a birthday today but is out of town until tomorrow night. It will be a casual dinner...probably with the guys watching football and the kids playing ping pong in the garage...dressed like eskimos...it is so funny to see!

We are spending the evening together, too. Just the five of us. My husband & I have the flu so the boys are making our little traditional foods and really taking care of by bringing us pillows & quilts while we watch old movies. If I wasn't feeling so poorly, this night would be perfect!
