I had to "lay to rest" my thrift store Calvin Klein pea coat (awesome find at $5.00) that I bought 4 years ago--it has served me well, but last year I had to do quite a bit of mending, and it was starting to look shabby--but NOT shabby chic. So, this year, with my bonus from work, I elected to put the majority in savings, but with the remainder, I would buy myself a new coat because all I have right now is an outdoor mucking about coat that looks even MORE shabby to wear to the office!!!!! And, it would be one that will last me about 4-5 years again. One that I love, because, well, obviously, I don't get rid of things easily :)
It was really hard for me to buy myself something....Jus had to dial the phone for me to actually order it because I kept backing out, saying, "that's ok. I'll just make do--it's not that cold." and "I'll find something cheaper at the thriftstore again--that was a perfectly good coat, you know."
But, in the end, I bought this (and I'm really happy about it):

Jonni, that's a good looking coat and nice quality. I like LL Bean's stuff. I bet it will look great on you and last a long time.

I'm curious to know what made you choose the brown Hunter Wellies (you mention in your post w/ picture that they are the right size and everything?) I have the origninal green wellies, they're so old that the buckle on one is almost completely off and I've completely worn the label off the back of the heel from pulling them off with the toe of the other boot & the lining is shot so I'm looking to replace mine, but am thinking about color, which is why I ask. Anyway, really like the coat you chose.

Thanks! In regard to the color, my old wellies were also green and like I said, they were really tired, but when I looked for a new pair, I just loved that brown--I'm not a bright color girl--and they have SO many colors now to choose from, but the chocolate is very dark and really pretty (I think). My husband has black Hunter's and after so many years of the original green, I think I needed a change--brown is about as "different" as I get .

Great choice Jonni...I'm undecided...I tend to be drawn to the bright gardening stuff...I've even thought of the bright yellow wellies...but will refrain...maybe yellow crocs instead and a more subdued wellie.

but since I use mine to weed-eat & I actually have to get in some of the ditches to reach, they seem impractical as the weed mess gets all over the front of the boot all the way up to the knee. | That's a very pretty coat, Jonni. I'm curious about the boots you guys are talking about. I've never had anything like that and I don't know anyone who has either. What activities are they practical for? How comfortable are they? Heavy? I was always into military boots, but now that I have a lower back problem, I can't wear them anymore. I have a practically new pair of H&H zippered jump boots that I need to unload and replace with something else. I was thinking about Doc Martens, but maybe these would be better? |

My wellies are my 1st favorite! As far as comfort, I've been known to wear them all day. I do recommend good socks as after prolonged wear they can irritate w/o good cushioning.
What can they be used for? You name it, they can do it! Even J Crew & many popular fashion catalogs sell them as a fashion accessory/must-have! I've used them for all gardening chores, in winter for cutting our Christmas tree, any purpose that requires comfort, dry feet, walking through mud (the buckles on the sides are to keep the mud from sucking them off your feet) so it's more about whether you like them style-wise. The best investment I've ever made for a boot!

Hey Amie--
I use my wellingtons for walking, fossil hunting in creek beds and low grade hiking/strolling--we take about 1 1/2 hour walks in the woods with dogs, and for gardening (they have great traction), and for general rainy day yuck. When I was around horses, I mucked in them. They are easily cleaned off with a hose. They have a nice structure, and fit very well on the calf. I do put an insert in mine just for more comfort (because I have ballerina feet--yikes) but my husband doesn't and he says they're super comfy. I wear wool boot socks with mine also, to wick moisture.
I would highly recommend them for chore boots and kicking around, but probably not daily long term wear.

| Thanks all for your input on the boots. I need boots for daily wear and hiking, so I guess these probably aren't the boots I'm looking for. Oh well, they look nice. Maybe if I have a large garden with a creek nearby someday... |

They're having their late winter sale, Ali, and there are some great deals! They had this really cute cashmere 3 quarter length sleeve "tee" with contrasting stitching that just keeps calling me....but, my goal was to get a coat, so I put the book up after I ordered :) I had ordered some items for my niece and nephew for Christmas and LL Bean sent a complimentary $10.00 gift card, so I used that towards the purchase--it took care of the shipping, so it was worth it.
Also, their customer service department is just SO nice...I really like purchasing from them.
