hi everyone, I love the outpost..... your stories and very meaningful to me....
I skiied yesterday and my face is a mess!! Too cold, I'm blotchy and a tad frostbit. Hope we start receiving the snow from the lower 48.
Just home from Peru, sat and watched Jen's The Story of Stuff, gosh if that didn't hit home after walking through markets there. No packaging, it's a bit rude to come home to the christmas fiasco we perform here every year. It was very minimal there.
I just assisted with about 75 surgeries in northern peru and then went south to Cusco and hiked along the inca trail, and went to Macchu Pichu. A little altitude sick at first, but then fine. 12,000 is a little high! My husband accused me of blood doping, as I was a little less winded skiing yesterday than normal.

I just watched that movie yesterday! It is amazing, isn't it? For those who are wondering what we are talking about, it is a movie at www.thestoryofstuff.com
I was pretty proud of myself to realize I am not the typical American consumer, but there is always room for improvement!
I hope your frostbite heals quickly! Put some nourishing lotion on!

Hi Jo!
Great to hear from you again - your trip must have been amazing. I spent a mere week on the Amazon (Iquitos, Peru to Leticia, Colombia) in college. It was unforgettable, and I sooooo want to go back & explore the highlands.
Can't wait to see your pics!
PS- I agree, it certainly does feel strange to view America's gluttony for stuff from afar.

Very interesting movie. I'm glad I live up here in the mountains. The influence of the city is so far away, we tend to be quite a bit more simple up here. I'm glad. Oh, all of our kids still ask for xboxes and those little music things the size of a credit card, but they don't always get them and yet they are still ok with that.
Glad to hear your back, Jo. I had sent you an email regarding your basket while you were gone. I hope it arrived ok? Having not heard from you in so long, I was a little concerned.

Jo, Jo, Jo! I will check out the Story of Stuff and definitely must see your Peru photos, but couldn't resist an opportunity to say hi here first. How amazing your trip must have been! You are a neat person. I wish I could know you more personally. It's snowing and blowing like crazy in Minnesota today...do you want me to send you some? :)
