It's quiet here this evening. Daddy has gone to bed with a migraine. My younger sister and I came over to put up Daddy's tree. It's bittersweet. But I will say after I put mine up today I felt a bit better. I miss Mom very much, she really loved the Christmas Season. My tree is decorated with primitive type decorations she made and that we made together. They make me smile as I remember our times together. Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. Blessings to you, Mikki

Hi Mikki,
it does get like that after the loss of someone very dear to you..bittersweet moments. But remember..the person would want you to carry on the loving traditions, the laughter, the memories, and the fun times with your own family and thosse that remain. There will always be those moments in your day to day when you stop and think of the person who has gone on.
Cherish the memories of your loved ones both near and those that have gone on... and hold them dear.
I found that when my grandmother passed on..that it was so helpful for me to deal with my grief..by creating a scrapbook with pictures of my grandmother. Then I added a page that had her favorite hymn, and also a page where I had written the things that were very special to me about my grandmother.
To take the time to create a lovely keepsake book like I did was extremely helpful to me in dealing with the loss.
I still have my moments when I'll choke up from time to time.In fact my mom sent me a folding fan just the other day... that my grandmother had for many years..it was a gift from my grandfather to my grandmother back during the Korean War..it is a oriental fan. When I saw it..I choked up, as my grandmother used to keep it in a trunk in her room and I'd sit for hours going through her trunk full of things she had kept over the years.
Anyhow..yes..cherish the memories.
May you and your family have a blessed Holiday season.
hugs,
Tina

Hi Mikki Jo. She is with you as you go through the ornaments, the memories you created together, she is there as you help your daddy. She will always be with you and at special time something will cross your mind and you will smile. It's her.
My husband died 10 days before your Mother. When I go in the valley and see a hawk I think maybe it's him. He loved the birds in the valley. And I smile a lot--just memories now--but oh so real. You take care. MB

I lost my dad due to cancer almost 3 years now
I know exactly how you feel
It will get better.
Although you might not think so now
Belessed are they that mourn; they will be comforted.
I felt God's present when I was grieving for Daddy
and my dear deceased Grandmother. Hugs to you pinkroses

I too am thinking of you. I check your blog and nothing. As time goes by it will get easier, but it does take time. My Mom is always with me and its only been 1 1/2 year. We are all here for you. Take Care.... Allison :)

Allison, I just thought I'd check in and say hi to everyone. I am indeed having a hard time dealing with our loss. I'm starting to miss her, but I'm still numb. I'm having a hard time grieving I think. Day before yesterday was the first time I went back to the cabin. Mom had rearranged everything the day before she got so sick. I know one day it will be a comfort to stay in my cabin again. But for now, I just don't go. Her little handful of tissues were laying on the table at the cabin, her chair sitting by the woodburning cook stove, and the handle still sticking in the stove cap. It was bittersweet. I appreciate your kind words so much. Your prayers and thoughts are priceless. I think I don't feel free to grieve right now because I try so hard to help my precious daddy. His grief is harder for me to bare than my own right now. It kills me to see him hurt so. Blessings to you, Mikki Jo

Dear Mikki, I too am thinming of you as the new year comes in. Everybody does their own griving at their pace and time. Please allow yourself to do your, give yourself the space and time to grive. Then you will be able to help your dad in a deeper way, holding his hand through the process. Grieving is hard, because it seems to push ourself back to the moments when the loss was tremendous. But it is a healing process and days come and go and it becomes easier for us to remember and to accept, to look around and see the light which changes, the birds that returns, the plants in the garden that grow.
Hugs and prayers to you.
Corinne

Mikki,
I am so sorry. Being gone, I had no idea you had lost your mama. Love and hugs. I cannot imagine the way your heart aches. Someday when you are able to go back to your cabin, I am sure you will feel your mama's love there as she intended for you when she arranged it for you.

Love, corrine
