Hooray Frannie- I am done so early this year, everything is made and sent...though now I find myself picking up needle and thread to make last minute littles. Today I made the kids Christmas ornaments for this year, I traced their little hands in the shape of mittens onto white felt, cut out and blanket stitched around with white thread including their name and the year and then let Bella embroider onto hers with bright thread. I may embroider a music note onto Jack's since he LIVES to dance;) I am making knitting needle cases with felt cut into long rectangles and stitched around and wool pin books as well...but nothing pressing...
Of course there is still the matter of the tree...Erik has been so sick all week and one of the firefighters he works with went out into the woods today, cut us a tree and is bringing it by in the morning. What a wonderful friend! I know it will be a beautiful tree, bigger than we would have gotten and I have been baking all day to thank him for it;) After we decorate it and throw some lights up we are DONE!
The best part of this year is that I made over three quarters of our gifts and ALL but one of the others were bought from friends!!!! I think I earned my handmade holiday patch;)

Nice to meet you, Frannie and Rebekka.
As far as our place, we're all decorated except for the outside lights. At nine months pregnant, I'm not climbing any ladders this year, and Brian (my hubby) has lots of work at his store during the holidays, so I'm not sure we'll get around to it. The baking is, as always, an ongoing process. We have tins and tins of cookies here, and a few kinds yet to make. We also need to make our fudge and gingerbread houses and of course the food for the actual holiday feast. Personally, I don't go shopping. Brian takes the list I make and heads to the store. The homemade gifts are all wrapped, labeled and ready to go. We should be all set by Monday (fingers crossed).... Happy Holidays! Laura |

Finding the tree and putting it up this weekend (we usually wait until 2 weeks before), finishing up knitting projects and framing projects, and making baked items. Gotta quit looking at things in magazines to stop getting ideas!!!!! Ordering my final gifts for dh online Friday. On Sunday, I've got to do dog footprints for my dh--that's going to be their gift to him :) Going to the post office first of next week to get items out to Illinois and some other places.... Will wrap some gifts over the weekend after the tree is up--no where to go with them right now! Whew. I better start making some notes!!!!

Well it seems like we go all out every other year, this is an odd year! with baby eating all time, 2 year old tring to potty train, schooling to tend to,,,,,,,,,, well we will just do what we can. we have 3 little trees, prelit (only one is working still) i have not really put dec. on because the girls keep messing with it.....so to have a "less" stressful season we will just do what gets done.

Oh my gosh, you guys. I'm still trying to get the electricity working in my dining room before the big Christmas Eve party! I can't even begin to decorate yet. Looks like the tree is going to go up the afternoon of Christmas Eve, as usual. |

All done with making presents as of this morning. I had to do 3 doz batches fudge. I may never eat another piece of fudge till summer :)BUT my house is not decorated yet--cept for the kitchen. I may do that today. I have 4 kitties who absolutely adore the xmas tree. So i wait to put it up till close to xmas. They dont tear it up --but they love to lay under it and watch the lights .All the neighbors have their outside lights up and all the cats lay in the picture window and watch them blinking every night. It is so cute. As you can guess --i have "grand kitties" not grand kids :) My daughter lives in CA and will be coming home the day after xmas for a week.( she has 4 kitties too ) I celebrate winter solstice as i am not christian --but on christmas i watch xmas cartoons all day and call my friends who are and wish them a merry one !The neighbors daughter helps me decorate and her emom is cool with me explaining to her about winter solstice and then i sit and listen to her tell me the nativity story. We enjoy sharing each others traditions

We had our family Christmas yesterday, since my daughter and her family will be going to Arkansas to be with her hubby's family over the 25th. So the tree has been up, and the cookies baked, and the presents wrapped early, so we could celebrate. Now this week, it will slow down, and I can at last finish my cards and bake some more, and finish shopping for my own sweetie hunk. It will be the first x-mas that hubby and I will be just the two of us since the first year we were married 30 years ago!
For our dinner yesterday, I made MJF's spaghetti pies, and a tossed spinach and mandarin orange salad and garlic bread. We kept it simple so that we could make hot chocolate, get into our jammies, and ride around town looking at the lights. Abigail just kept yelling "Holy Mackerel" all through the ride!
But I must tell you, that spaghetti pie is delicious! And very simple. Everyone in the family liked it a lot.
Well, now I look forward to this week. Each night I sit and gaze at our tree and the cozy living room. The christmas cactus are prize winning this year on the back porch!!! Huge and full of blooms. The red vintage table cloth in the dining room that belonged to my hubby's mom makes me think of home. So far, this has been a good holiday season!
Hope yours is too.

I'm nearly done, but this week is going to be hectic. Decorations and tree have been up for awhile, and yesterday I wrapped most of the gifts. I still need to embroider a few tea towels, crochet a set of potholders (to go out in tomorrow's mail!), make the Christmas cards (also to go out in tomorrow's mail!) sew up some felt play food, package a wine gift, purchase Christmas dinner (roast duck) a bake tons and tons of cookies! But I can't wait to see all of the family- we'll be spending two days with my sister, a day with my husband's family, and then having a relaxing Christmas day at home.

This weekend was a pretty successful one as far as getting things accomplished. I started Friday, by finishing up my online shopping and Saturday, baked and shopped (a little bit, it was TERRIBLE weather) and Sunday, got the tree and put it up (it's REALLY lovely!!!) and put together some pressies for folks. The only problem I'm having is finding one gift for my husband that I purchased only 3 weeks ago--I can't find it to save my life!!!! That's why I don't go shopping for folks months in advance, because I put it up for "safe keeping" and then I never find it again! I tore my little house apart, but to no avail.
I'll just have to "stop thinking" about it and it will turn up!

I've had my shopping done since Summer, but I tend to see more and add on. I also didn't budget for a bf and his family...Long story about that. Presents are not wrapped yet, but I will do that soon, maybe today. I did celebrate christmas with my family in Maine they came to visit at Thanksgiving. I had put up the tree the day after Halloween and decorated so it was convenient and we could enjoy the holidays:)
