These are kinda' small .. but ya' get the idea .. this was my 'americana' front porch .. i do wish the 'floor' was STONE rather than brick though .. we might change that in the future.

Frannie, you have more energy than just about anyone else I know! I love to see your decorations each season-and in between!

There is green grass in these photos...Post is dated Dec. 10...are my eyes playing tricks on me? Here everything is under a layer of ice.

Thanks for sharing!

Our STONE walkway .. it was mostly 'concrete' and we had it dug up and replaced with these stones. In the spring .. summer and fall .. it is now filled in with wonderful 'creeping thyme'

This is the porch on the LOWER CABIN .. friend, Kathy SUGARBUCKET enlarged it from the previous one and put a 'stronger' floor on it .. they took the 'tin roof' off .. and carried it to the 'barn' and put the roof over the barn porch where there was none .. sooo much nicer .. we want to put a roof and split rail railings on the 'schoolhouse' porch too!

this is our wonderfully snuggy 'screened' back porch on the Lower Cabin. YEP!!!! KATHY SUGARBUCKET BUILT IT!!! (she is not only incredibly talented .. she is a 'true friend'. i adore her!) it is truly wonderful to sleep out here .. i'll post pics of how it is primitively furnished soon. the 'dawgs' love to hang out here! AND hank and our neighbor terry built a HUGE fenced in area for Cabin and Creek.

We love to have morning coffee here early in the morning!

tin roof added to barn porch .. we also had 'furring strips' added to the gaps between the barn boards to keep critters out .. because Kathy SUGARBUCKET .. completely FINISHED the inside of the barn with wood walls .. and added both air conditioning and heating .. it is now finished upstairs and downstairs. Hank stores his hiking, skiing, boating, camping, SPORTS equipment upstairs .. and he has a roll top desk in here .. along with his 'weights' .. that he lifts every day! .. and this is where he and the dogs go when he brushes them every day after their run in the forest. Kathy added two closets to keep the 'tools' outta' sight! Hank has a MEGA MUSIC system out here .. but it is wonderfully sound-proof even when he blasts it like the 'rolling stones' were in there!

The Shower Deck is built onto the side of the barn .. to give privacy .. (unless you come up outta' the forest for a peek!) Will post pics of that soon too!

oh .. those eaves on both sides of both cabins were pretty rotten when we bought it .. we're now having those replaced. the first summer when i lived here alone before honey hunk moved to kentucky .. i had resident WOODPECKERS that loved tap-tapping on the back one .. which was just a big board.

we also had a new tin roof put on the upper cabin. it had a big patch where a smokestack had come through.

the gardens are coming back each spring and summer as we do new plantings .. the couple who lived here just before we bought it (lexie and richie) didn't very much like plants .. and lexie told me that richie took a big 'kabota' to them!

there were also two unattractive gravel driveways in the yard (not sure why??) but we dug out all the gravel and planted grass .. and continued the 'split rail fence' to keep people from driving into the yard .. and we continued it further up the hill too.

only a few thiings left that we want to do .. continue the gardens, of course .. fix those rotting eaves .. paint the barn and addition where we had the furring strips added .. (i think i'm going to have the inside 'white' walls painted too in the 'addition' .. a softer 'brown paper-bag'-ish color i think! gonna' ask sugarbucket's advice on that! and i'd like to turn the 'schoolhouse' into a 'guest room/antiques shoppe for friends' .. we did have wooden ceilings put in the upstairs of the upper cabin where only insulation had been when we moved in .. and kathy added a wonderful wooden railing on the staircase of the lower cabin to keep someone from falling into a big hole down the stairs. can't decide whether to make my 'studio' crafting room in the upstairs of the lower cabin (right now it is our 'computer room and libarary (LOTS of books .. but isn't 'decorated' as i'd like .. have mostly 'prim' furniture up here .. but the 'computer' is very modern looking! i do keep my sewing machine and art desk up here .. but i think i'd like to put those in the 'schoolhouse' soon's i get all the 'treasures' cleared out of there! (wanna' come help me clear it out???)

oh mima darlin' .. you are invited anytime .. would love to see your shinin' face on my front porch! (goes for all ya'll farm gurlz!) and yep! i'm still planning that 'cabin fever gathering' this winter. honey hunk can't get on an antartica trip until NEXT winter (at least the one he wants!) ... soooooooo ... i'll have to send him 'winter camping' for a coupla' days .. but he loves that .. shan't be a problem .. so's we can have the place to our 'gurlfrenz selves'! will let ya'll know the dates soon's i conjure them up! (gonna' head for D.C. early january to visit my daddy's gravesite and see the rest of the fam too. AND .. both Delaware grandchildren celebrate birthdays in January .. and i want to celebrate with them! t'will probably be FEBRUARY or MARCH for our gathering ... when we don't have SNOW or ICE predicted! (our winters can be pretty mild here .. with a few surprizes!) might have to be a 'spur of the moment' thing because of the weather .. soooo .. be thinking february or march!! the man is looking for a winter trip to israel for the two of us ... sooo .. i also have to build around that!

and gurlfren .. you won't believe this cuz' i can hardly believe it myself! i haven't even decorated a TREE .. yet!! been in toledo the last two weeks (right after taking 'autumn' down! we leave again on the 22nd of december to spend christmas in toledo with the grandes! i do have a wonderful tall FEATHER TREE that i leave up year round and change the decorations on it for each season/holiday .. i will indeed try to get some christmas stuff on it before heading 'nawth' .. and i hope to just get a live tree and put it on the front porch with some simple holiday decorations .. my 'totem' here at freedom valley farm is BLACKBIRDS .. CROWS .. and i bought two most wonderful olde ones on my way back home from ohio yesterday .. will probably put one of those on top .. and fill the branches with smaller ones! i already took all of our 'gifts' to toledo and mailed the others 'back home' .. soooooooooo .. i don't even have gifts to put under a tree here! when i get that one up .. i will take some pics and post them! i love SNOWMEN and hope to make some primitive ones soon .. THAT will be my 'winter decor'. I love snowmen cuz' they are good for the whole season (as opposed to santas).

miz michelle thanks for the sweet words .. our friend, kathy SUGARBUCKET did a wonderfully prim job on all of them!

xo, frannie

THESE ARE PICS OF OUR WONDERFULLY HUGE 'BACK PORCH' that we had built off the back of the 'addition' between the two cabins. i don't LOVE the outside of the addition .. we've thought of having it covered with olde 'logs' .. but then thought that might be 'tooo much'. kathy has added those furring strips to keep the 'bugs' from moving in between them .. these photos were taken soon after the porch was built .. it is MUCH more filled with wonderful primitive pieces now .. (i'll take some more recent pics and post them sometime soon!)

this has opened up our 'socializing' space in spring/summer/autumn .. (i have 'table seating' out there for 14 .. plus .. comfy chairs for a half dozen more! ... and hank and i will sometimes 'bundle up' and go out there to just sit and watch the winter birds while sipping hot cocoa!

whooops .. posted one picture twice! that wonderful step-back cupboard and dry sink are almost a 'match' .. i got the dry sink many years ago on the 'east coast' .. kathy found the step-back cupboard in illinois! i love the 'mustards' she painted the floor and trim. we had electricity put out here with two ceiling fans!
