Hello All! I live on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. I just recently read and reread and reread MaryJane's book. I grew up on a farm in PA and the book brought tears to my eyes! I am sick today so I spent most of the day glued to the forums. Wow! My life is in turmoil and has been for a long time. I told my mom that I just want to go "home". She said "you have a home, what else do you need?" Now I know what's been missing. I want my "simple life" back! (simple not easy! lol)Knowing there are alot more girls out there like me has given me the greatest blessing....Hope! Thank you all for sharing your stories and hearts! I hope to get to know you all much better in the future!

Hi chicken necker! I know how finding MJF feels; for me it was "this is what's been missing in my life!" Many of us have said the same thing after finding MJ's book and this site. The book spoke to my heart in a way that just brought me to tears. I've not been the same since & I feel like it was a "God-send" in many ways. Hope you continue to find joy and comfort, inspiration and that "home-away-from-home" feeling here on the MJF's Connection & try to remember that "tough times don't last, but tough people do" by (?)

Welcome to the forum! How did you choose your nickname?

Isn't it great to have an instant connection with people, quite literally, all over the world? It really is nice to find direction and hope in the books and magazines. I always knew I needed something and my heart was searching for something different than the mainstream stuff you see in most magazines and on TV. MaryJane is the perfect guide to a more simple lifestyle, isn't she?

Welcome to MJF! I totally know where you are coming from. My parents really want me to come home...back to my rual life that I left since 1994 when I went to collage (after that life has not been the same)....I miss it so very much. My sister and her family lives up the road from our parents. DH and I are going through career transitions...I am ready to leave my job and he lost his (not his fault...long story)....but the way things are with finances, locked in a lease, etc, we cannot make that move right now. I do get teary eyed too when I read stuff on the MJFG board/related books or when I watch a farm type show like America's Heartland or Farmer's Almanac TV (on our PBS HD channel). I think sometime in our lives we need to get back in touch to our rural roots or experience country life (for those born and raised in the city), due to our confusing, face-paced lives....Anyhow, I am so happy that I found MJF! Again, welcome :)

Welcome! I know what you mean about finding a place here. Many times I'll find inspiration in reading something someone else has said to another farmgirl. Somehow the words were something I needed to hear. It's a feeling of belonging, as many of the wonderful ladies share their experiences and feelings and I find I can relate to what they are saying. It's nice meeting you here and I look forward to getting to know you.

Dear Alee, "Chicken necker" Technically, here on the "shore" is a derogitory (sp) term for yuppies that come over from the outside to buy up property from the born~n~bred's, ruin it, build up and just don't "know how its done in these parts", namely using chicken necks to catch crabs instead of the traditional bull lips, erg! I have a very special friend that when we met called me that, he says because my English is educated and I use my turn signals (that's just not done!)LOL! Once we talked about our real upbringing and I shared the pictures of me and my sister standing with the cow in just our undies (we were very remote, just mom and two girls and young enough not to think nasty things)he changed his mind. He calls me chicken necker as a joke and as affection.

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by. ~anon

Hi Chicken Necker...well, that's some story behind the screen name! I know how you feel, sometimes I want to throw my hands up and literally "head for the hills." The city can be REALLY rough...too many people who all want what they want...sometimes it's hard to find beauty amongst the concrete.

Life will ask alot out of you, but it's always good to have friends, and this seems to be the place for them!

Welcome, and I hope you eventually find your happiness

Welcome, Chicken Necker!

I knew it had to do with catching crabs (have spent a lot of time on the VA side of the Potomac River cooking and devouring those tasty critters). I did not know it was a term used for those of us who have found the good life next to the short ... we usually get called "Come Here's" on this side!

You sound like a true farmgirl, and you will love the time spent here.

Welcome! The story of your nickname is very funny! To be honest, I doubt I will ever live on a farm, but I like the 'farmgirl spirit' on this forum, which is why I'm drawn to it. I like country, and I live vicariously through this site and learn a lot. It's very interesting!

Welcome Chicken Necker!!

You have found a safe haven and a "home" no matter where you live. You will love it here.

I love your name and the story behind it. I live on the Gulf Coast near Galveston, TX and go crabbing every chance I can. Chicken necks are actually the preferred bait here!! How funny.

Blessings
