I got a bagful of lotion making supplies through freecycle from a girl who bought them and then didn't have the time/inclination to use them. Any ideas on how to get started in this? Is it as complex as it seems on some websites? Some look simple, some look really difficult. Any tips? Thanks!

I would do to Amazon and look for used book on making lotions. Or the Library. Good Luck, I might try something like this myself this next spring.

Hi Sheila. Freecycle is great isn't it :) Anyhow, yea the local library and Amazon are great starting points. Also check out Barnes & Nobel. Even try you local craft store (like JoAnns/Michaels'/Hobby Lobby).

I also noticed that you live in Ohio where exactly are you loacted in the state?

Good luck...sound like fun!

There are lots and lots of soapmaking supplies that have formularies on their websites. You could Google lotion making recipes. Try Snowdrift Farms -- they always have great recipes. Southern Soapers is another to try.

Join a B&B forum~they usually have endless info in the archives (do a search after joining)

Approach it with the fastidious sanitary conditions you would with canning.
Any B&B item that introduces water into the recipe MUST have an appropriate preservative
otherwise you'll wind up with moldy (or worse) goods.
