I just finished reading Rebekah Teal's latest "Rumor Has It" columns, and I am STILL laughing That urban farmgirl has grit, you know it? She and her aging dog Tripp recently stepped off the beaten path (and wayyyy outside the box). Go to http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/MJFBlog/ and read "Hiking Trials" and "Mercy!" - I tell you, I'm giggling still!
Seriously, though, we all have our comfort zones - those physical and figurative places where we feel confident and secure. As for me, I'm far more at ease in big wilderness than I am in a crowded city situation (although being lost at dusk in the woods is not my favorite of all scenarios). How about you? Are you a gung-ho wild woman, or do you have to psyche yourself up to face Mother Nature? How do you temper your phobias and breach the boundaries of your box
Tell all!

I am definitely in my element in the outdoors with LOTS of space. I like to visit the "city" but love the peacefulness of the simple farm life.
One of my biggest fear in life was the movie "Jaws"- my brother terrified me with that movie when I was four and it stuck- my whole life I was afraid to swim in any type of open water- lake, ocean or otherwise and I don't like deep pools. So what do I do? I join the Navy- yep- stick me on a floating ship in the middle of the ocean where every scary creature lives that I am terrified of. Sometimes, I would physc myself out and freak out but I would remember it is mind over matter, mind over matter..now mind you I ain't gonna go jumping in any ocean just yet, but my fear has subsided some....some....a little??? LOL

Oh my gosh! I just love Rebekah's Princess 'Mater's posts! (you know it is hard to type when a baby keeps hitting the delete key!!)
I hadn't read that post yet, Jen! Thanks for the reminder!
I just love her "voice" she is so honest and has such a sense of humor. You're right- I was giggling the whole way through!

Ha! I know what you mean, Alee - my little rascal Sam (15 mos) has just discovered the mouse! Luckily, right now, he is sound asleep, sprawled across my lap
Heather, sharks unnerve me too. But my ocean fear is even more irrational than that - I just can't stand the thought of my legs dangling above the dark depths below. Working on an island wildlife refuge for a year, my husband and I became quick boating experts (or, rather, we lucked out several times & got smarter in the process). There are few experiences more satisfying than those when you face your fears and live to laugh at the tale!
