I got my flu shot about 3 weeks ago and have been sick since. The last 3 years I have gotten it I had mild reactions but shrugged them off. This year I am down right ill. Maybe it stress of my life and my back injury. But UGH!!! can't seem to shake the nausea, sinus infection, and of course the trots. I'm living on baby food and the B.R.A.T. diet. Anyone else ever had a problem with the Flu Shot?

Hi Betty Jo, So sorry to hear you are under the weather. I got my very first flu shot two weeks ago. I haven't had any ill effects, except at the injection site. It's about the size of a quarter, hard, reddish, flaky, and really itchy. Is that normal? I haven't called the Dr. cause I'm not sick, just irritated. Hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Lu

personally I think the flu shot is some scheme the govt a health dept cooked up. Almost everyone i know thar has taken it has ended up sick! I took it once because they offered it free in an office i was working at. I yad never had the flu in my life and got it three times that year. I just dont understand how injecting yourself with the virus can be beneficial! Good old handwashing and avoiding people who are sick is still the best medicine in my book!

The flu shot doesn't protect you from all types of flu, just the really bad influenzas. I can't remember which ones exactly, but it's the ones that you'd end up in the hospital or worse from. But Julie is still right, good handwashing and staying away from sick people is the best medicine! I just can't take any chances with small children. Especially my toddler, who is on an aspirin a day, which could turn into Reyes Syndrome if he gets the influenza virus. Betty Jo, I would go see the doctor if I were you. You may be having an allergic reaction ro you may have something else totally unrelated. Three weeks in my opinion is too long to go, you may be getting dehydrated and that won't help. Please go to the doctor!

Luzy I would call and ask I have never had any problem like that I just got ill and achy most years. I'm so tired of doctors, seems this past year I haven't gone a week with out seeing one for one unknown illness or another. Light Bulb moment!!! Maybe that is where I am getting ill from. Last night I sat down with my DH and we talked at this moment I'm on @ least 5 different medications. I haven't always been the healthiest person in past years but this seem to be extreme. Last spring I had to change doctors because of the health insurance my employer offered and none of the doctors I had been seeing for 15+ years were on the list. The new doctors seem to write RX for everything were the old doctors were more homeopathic it seems. But my wonderful DH called my boss and told her I was not coming in today so I can rest. I think I will also take the bite and see my old doctor even though I will have to pay for the whole visit and the upcoming change of job should help too. Maybe I'll eat some dirt too as a few natural germs might help out.

I just had a flu shot too this last week, my very first time too made me ill. I was in for a usual girlie check up,and the doctor said "why don't we do this now since your here and I have the shots'. I had never had one and always get real sick in winter so I said sure have been sick for a week.

On top of that he found a mole I have complained about before had changed now I have to have an operation for a mole under my arm that may be cancerous.

I also found out I have a cysts on my ovaries and it is very painful (we have to watch that as he isn't sure if it is a cyst or endometrious) if it doesn't go away soon I have to go have an ultrasound and if that doesn't show it and I still have pain then it is exploratory surgery ( bad with bleeding disorder) to see if it is endometrious we are so praying for a cyst that goes away. Not a fun few weeks here.

I hope you get over your cold real soon they are deffinately no fun.

take care and thinking of you and wishing you well

I had the same experience as Julie and Betty Jo. Just many years ago. I was sicker after that flu shot than I've been since and that was probably 30 years ago on my first job. I haven't had a flu shot since. In the winter, I try to stick to a regimen of regular vitamin C supplements(that helps me a lot).

I've not had one, but everyone I know has such similar experiences to you girls. I sure hope you feel better, Betty! Sucks to be sick this time of year, though, I always am at Christmas, so I'll just wait my turn!

I just take a bunch of herbal supplements my friend in Cali cooks up, and I'm feeling healthy and energized!

I don't know what to say I am not sure if this will help in winter or not this is a mild illness just annoying right now. But if I don't get real il in the middle of winter dec - feb I will have to think it might have been worth it. Might because I will never know if I wouldn't have gotten sick without it of course.

Still eating mashed foods and light diet but feeling better. DH called me in last night so I got to sleep in until 11:00. It was soooo Cool!!! I know I have a lot of other issues that are causing stress so I think it could just be a concoction of things. But I think next year I might just skip and see what happens.

The flu shots are for just 1 type of virus, and if that virus doesnt show up (which it hasnt for the last couple years), the shot was for nothing. there are tons of flu viruses out there, and its only a guess to which one is coming and lots of the time that perticular one doesnt show up.
There is also mercury in most of the flu vaccine, unless you request it without, and then they tell you its not enough to matter, well in my opinion any amount is to much.
Last year there was such a panic for vaccine(because they were short on it) that they had people going to Canada on boats to get flu shot from Seattle, and it wasnt free. and the strain of virus never made it here, so all was for nothing plus expensive.
Getting down off my BOX now. :))

Every year my parents get the flu shot and every year they get the flu so I don't really see the point in it.

I have heard of many people getting sick after the flu shot. Most doctors will tell you that the shot does not make you sick but then they say those who are allergic to eggs or have had a bad reaction to a previous flu shot should not get a flu shot again. So there are bad reactions to the shots. My Grandma was so sickly the year she got her flu shot and it happened right after receiving the shot. I have never gotten a flu shot and do not get it for my children. It is a hit or miss since that particular flu might not be rampant in the US this year and the flu shot doesn't work 100% of the time anyway.

I hope you're feeling better now!!! I don't like the flu shot nor condone it, unless you have a horrible illness that you need protection. Me I'd rather catch it and fight it naturally. I also hate antibiotics since I had anaphalactic shock from cipro! Many people do get sick from the flu shot....

I tend to agree with Julie. I've started a daily regimen of elderberry juice - for me, hub, & 3 kids - and so far, so good. We got the juice from our health food store - spendy, but worth the $ if it works. There's some great info about elderberry under the "Herbal Wisdom" forum:

My pulmonary doc offered for me to the a flu shot and a pneumonia shot both while I was up there last month. I said I would think about it. I think I am going to pass. I have never had either before. I tend to get pneumonia easily, but the shot dosn't cover all the types anyway. I feel like I am on enough medicine right now..just feel better NOT doing it..for me anyhow.
I love using elderberry juice too. Got mine from our own Blue Egg Babe at www.farmatcoventry.com wonderful stuff.

Yep, and I LOVE the sweet-tart taste without any sweetening. I either sip a spoonful straight or mix it with a glass of water.

I've never had a flu shot and probably never will. Everyone I know that gets one gets sick or a bad reaction, so I don't know what good it does. I'm one for natural immunities whenever possible!

Since flu shots have aluminum in them to help "carry" the medication, I will never get a flu shot. I'd rather be sick for a week with the flu than increase my chances of alzheimers or parkinson's, which have both been clearly linked to aluminum. Several shots use aluminum in them, so it is good to ask before agreeing to the shot. Given the terrible results some of you are having, I am not too upset about missing them anyway. So sorry it has made some of you sick!

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Don't get me started on flu shots!!! I worked for a family practice doc for years and they would push the flu shot like crazy on their employees! I refused to get one and you know what- I was the one that didn't get sick!!!!!!

Debi,
I remember my grandmother in law telling us how when she was working in nursing everyone at her station got the flu shot and she refused, guess who was the only one well enough to work?

We don't even contemplate infant shots. My dd refuses to have her children done and now we heard they are trying to make it illegal for parents to make that decision. Did someone say BIG BROTHER?
