Rose is now putting weight (though very lightly) on her foot. I purchased an anti-inflammatory glucosamine tablet (of which she takes 2), and a baby aspirin. I also put her bed mat over a heating pad on medium and she laid there all night. She rested well, and this am, though a little stiff, she bounded out the door to go outside. Good feeling. Thanks for all your concern, truly!!! Rose, is again, not feeling well...she's been sort of favoring her foot since late Saturday, and tonight, is hobbling around like a wounded soldier. I don't see anything in the pads, so I'm thinking it might be a sprain....she's very restless, though, and keeping her "still" is really difficult. Is there anything that we can give her to "settle her" that's not going to hurt her? I have given dogs benadryl before on vets recommendation, but it was for allergies, though it DID make them sleepy....

You mentioned she is licking - is she licking the foot and making a sore on it? Is she weight bareing it? Is there any swelling? Jonni, I want to thank you for sending me the lovely card when I lost my shepherd June, it was a difficult time. Could Rose have been bitten by a bug, spider or tick?

Have you checked between the pads?
How about swelling tenderness on that foot does the foot feel hot to the touch
if it persisits for the same intensity for more than 2 days I'd just go see a vet |

Kathy-- You're welcome, I could just hear the heartbreak in your posts, and I've surely been there. Wanted you to know...
Well, here is what I observe: The foot doesn't feel hot, her nose does, as she's made herself "nuts" with her obsessive behaviors (hello, GSD!)
She licks on top of the foot, near where her "ankle" is, on the highest pad and she's licking the wall, the front door, the pillows, her blankets...it almost seems like a "coping" method. She does moan and whimpers.
She is favoring the foot/leg immensely--resting, sitting with just the tip of the foot touching the floor, or holding it up entirely.
It didn't stop her from stealing chews from everyone this am, or running like mad to get in to "be first" from outside. But, I guess she forgets herself ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif)

Jonni-
It could be a sprain, or a torn tendon, but it does sound internal. I have a friend who's dog landed wrong from catching a frisbee and it tore the tendon in one of her front legs. You might consider taking her in for a check-up if she isn't feeling better in a day or so.
BTW- My friend's dog healed without surgery and is able to run after frisbees again. :D

Thanks, girls. Yep, Rose is back to tearing around REALLY fast, all 115lbs of her, and this am, when we left, she was lying on 4 "chews", (to horde them) so I think she's back to her old self. ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif)
