What do you think?? It's lunch time you need something quick but good for you. This idea came to me working at my family produce stand this weekend. I was making a Tomatoe(vine ripe), ham & cheese sandwich for everyone & a customer really wanted one. So I made one for her she gave me $5.00!
I was thinking about a fresh sandwich counter. Hand the customer a check list...they check off what they would like on there sandwich.....Just thinking out load!!!

While it sounds wonderful to me, I'm not sure it's "legal". With all the health codes/restrictions anymore, a person can't do half the stuff they used to do. Even if it comes from a kitchen that is so clean you could eat off the floor, I think you still have to have the Health Inspector check you out! It might be worth checking out if your serious about it! Oh for the good ole days again!

I have been in the restaurant business for a number of years with my husband (we are no longer in it). Your concept is perfectly legal, and all I can say is that I wish you would open it near me.

I would seriously like to start a tea room...but I dont know the legal or Health Dept regs..Anyone know of a site I could get this info?
I have so many ideas-I wonder if i could do it out of my home? I have a wonderful area and even a "parlor" that I could turn into a little shop..

Jan-
You have to first start with county regulations. I did a search for your state and found this for you:
http://www.idph.state.il.us/rulesregs/lawsrules.htm
The County Health Inspector should be listed on this site.

hope this helps

Jan, there is a course that is required here in Pennsylvania for proper food handling. I checked the web for you, and I found a website for Illinois you might be interested in. www.sfhcorp.com/SFH_2004/pages/price_list.htm
