  Well, nobody shot me after my last auction adventure, so I went to another one. Here are two of the too many things I bought:One Cathedral Window quilt and an old Roper gas stove. The quilt is full size and reversible. I spent one entire day cleaning the stove in my driveway. I bought the stove in the last five minutes of the auction....I thought it was all over, and the auctioneer said: "Let's go into the basement"...basement???? So off I went. They had stuff in boxes and just sold 'this side of the basement' and 'that side of the basement'. And then there was the stove...He started with: "Who'll give me ten dollars" ...and nobody said anything. They were all wandering around the basement looking in boxes(I don't think anybody knew about the basement). Then he said "Okay, who'll give me five...five dollars?" And once again, my mouth spoke without any input from my brain(my dh, the old external censor, was outside sitting on a stool I bought) and I raised my hand. I really, really did think someone would bid against me...but no one did. When I snuck out of the basement, trying to think of an excuse...something, anything to tell my dh(we came in my tiny Kia Rio instead of his truck), I realized that there was a loudspeaker broadcasting everything to the entire neighborhood. So I just looked at him and said: "Well, I guess you heard" LOL

Oh Janice, what fun! That quilt is beeeooootiful!
Is that black sign-thing inside of the stove, I can't tell what it says, except for "note", in the center.
What a deal on that stove, girl! Such a sweet one, too. Is it in working order?

Jonni - The sign thing is inside the oven door and explains what temperature you should use to cook all different dishes. I don't know if it works or not, but the burners look pretty good and so does the pilot light thing.
Mary Beth - I'd love to have company at auctions - two coming up in the next two weeks - my poor dh usually just brings a book and goes off and hides until it's over(you'd think he'd learn to stay close and shut me up! LOL)

Does the stove have the alcoves on top for the salt, pepper, flour and sugar shaker jars? I had one very similar, bought from a friend of my mothers for just a few dollars in the late 70's. Used it and loved it for several years. Finally ended up giving it away when I moved from SoCalif. My daughter had broken one of the jars, but I still have the other three. Those burners would hold pinpoint flames for hours, much better than my near new $2k stove.

I love that stove!! I have been looking for a vintage electric stove for months now. Hard to find around here though. Good score!!! Love the quilt too. Sooo beautiful!

No alcoves, Ronna. But it does have a nice warming drawer below the oven. If I had the room, I'd keep it as a decoration. It's sure taking up a lot of space in our tiny booth right now.

Well WOW is about all I can say. I was also glad to see your post, I haven't seen you about in a while. That stove is something!! I had an old ones years ago, and boy do they hold the heat, you know they are made so much better. These will all be really nice things for your new house, how exciting.

Hi, Nancy Jo. How are the boys, Jack and Dave? As much as I like this stove, I just can't keep it for myself. I have an old gas stove I bought a couple of years ago(made by Lindemann & Hoverson), that I'll be using in the farmhouse. One of the many, many bad things about me is that I could just go out and buy old appliances because I think they are so beautiful. I felt sorry for this one, because no one wanted it. I was afraid it would end up in a junk yard. But this is not something a (sane) person should collect! LOL! I could fill up our old tobacco barn in no time! :O

| I went to an auction last Tuesday with two of my Amish neighbors. I did bid on a Victorian Settee...didn't get that....and then on a sofa table...didn't get that either. But, Annie did get a rocking chair for $20. Somehow we managed to get it into my backseat. I've never been to such a fast auction. They started with the big stuff (furniture, etc.) at 6pm and were done by 8p. We were done so early that the ladies took me to a friends house where I had my first glass of cherry cider. I don't like cherries at all but I could've drank this cider all night! I love auctions! Susan |

Okay, you have my dh and I in stiches her laughing, then I showed him the stove and he is drooling....don't we wish we lived closer cause I know he would be buying that stove!!!!!!!

When I come across the picture of the stove I had, I'll share it. Gave it to a friend of my sister and she put it in her family room on display. I felt just a bit quilty not giving her the glass jars, but it was hard enough letting go of the stove. And she didn't know I had the jars anyway. I do hope it goes eventually to someone who will love it and you make a good profit for your time in making it pretty.

I'd love to see a pic of your stove, Ronna. I just love old appliances, big and small. I'm hoping someone will love it, too. If I had a store of my own, I'd just keep it as a decoration.

Holy Smokes!!! Love the quilts and the stove is awesome! I can tell you, those things would never be at a reasonable price around these parts! Great finds!
