Any suggestions on how to eliminate those thorny blackberry bushes? I have some taking over my backyard and I don't want to use herbicide because I'm planning a little veggie garden in the area. The roots are hard to get to because they have surrounded several larger trees, so I'm not sure how far into them I can penetrate.
Thank you,

Kimberly Ann

After fighting those buggers for years I finally resorted to Blackberry and Brush Killer that I bought at Home Depot. It didn't hurt any of the other plants and it did kill the roots. That is one nasty plant.

I've been wondering the same thing! We have blackberries that have taken over part of the garden AND the clipping that the previous owner put in the ravine behind our house have seen rooted and taken over the ravine! As much as I like blackberries I hate these bushes/vines. I trim mine back 3x a year and they still spread. I think that the problem for me is that it loves to re-root itself where ever the vine touches the ground. I've never seen something so easily spread and root.
I'm also afraid to use any herbicides because we have some rare wildflowers in the ravine and the bushes in the garden keep taking over the asparagus patch which I would be crushed to lose. If anyone else has suggestions I would love to hear them also!
Good question Kimberly Ann and welcome to the forums!
