I can not even imagine what all of the firefighters and the people who live in these areas are going through. My heart goes out to all of you. My prayers are with you.

The Reno area has sent 125 firefighters, numerous fire trucks and a fixed wing plane from the National Guard to help fight the fires. Last I heard, they were amazed at the intensity of the winds, different from the fires up here. It's good that the states can help each other in times of need.
I lived in SoCalif for many years and not far from several areas that are affected now. Scary situation, do hope the winds die down and make it easier for everyone. My dad and stepmom lost everything to fire some years back, not something you wish on anyone.

It is Tuesday and 7:19pm. I am watching three big fires south towards San Diego from my back yard. I see flames but it is still a long ways from here. The sky is glowing. Another fire I see is from my front yard to the far north of our home. Everywhere you look, there is fire. So very sad. Pray that tomorrow will be a better day.

I was gone for a while but now I'm back

Don't mean to sound flip, but my boss drug me into a three hour meeting this afternoon to talk about - STUFF. Who the hell wants to talk about that with all this going on.

My little rant for the day.

Anyway, as of 7pm the Ranch fire had moved into Fillmore (a town about 5 miles North from here); and the Magic fire pushed into Ventura County (on the back side of Simi Valley, next town east). This will probably mean more to the gurlz who are familiar with the area. Fire Dept is still concerned they will merge to create a mega fire.

I heard over 400 firefighters were making a stand east of Fillmore to prevent it from entering the town because that is where fires usually jump the freeway and run up the canyons into Moorpark. As Grace knows this is a huge concern for Moorpark because the towns of Fillmore and Piru can never keep a fire on their own side of the mountains. There I go being flip again. I must be tired.

Occasionally I hear sirens but haven't ventured out see if the fire to the east has crested the hills and headed our direction. We aren't getting much news on our county, mostly about Lake Arrowhead, which is near the ski area of Big Bear if that sounds more familiar; and San Diego.

On a positive note the winds are decidely calm tonight. That is great news because the fires slow down and firefighters have a better chance of getting a handle on them. It is eerily quite though.

We are still on watch and wait mode.

Prayers to all farther south.

It looks like we have turned the corner up here in Ventura County. We even had a smidge of fog this morning.

The morning news reported that the Magic fire (to the east) was 80% contained and the Ranch fire (to the north) was 10% contained. But, the great news is the wind has really died down from what it had been. It's still hot (mid- to high-90's) and dry, and will be until the weekend.

Hopefully, now, the firefighters can get some rest, a good meal and head farther down south which is still in a bad way.

It really warms my heart to read these postings at the same time that it is breaking. My heart cries for all the people who have lost their lives, homes, and jobs. But during all this pain and turmoil we have farmgirls offering to take one another into their homes. That is EXACTLY what being a farmgirl is about and I am at a loss for words to tell you all how much you all mean to me and how much gestures like that mean!

Alee, you are so right! The farmgirl spirit is precious! What a wonderful group of caring women! This morning I got a sweet email from Chessie-Karen now inviting me to her home...the fires are very close to me now. It to, warmed my heart! All is well so far.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart Karen and when this is all over, we shall meet and have a wonderful day together!

Had a fire break out closer then a mile from my home this afternoon. It burnt 12 acres in minutes and thankfully they got it out! Watching fires again from back yard with our "orange" moon overhead...

Sorry ladies, I had been gone all day, just got home a bit ago & am catching up on my emails & stuff.

Kathie, Mima is north of Ventura County(Santa Maria) and safely away from the havoc of the fires.

Maryjane, continue to stay safe, isn't it eerie the way the skies look?(sent you an email)

Jenn, well it's good to know that if I did want to move back to Moorpark, there still is a Moorpark!
Sounds like you can start to rest at ease. I sure don't miss this time of year in Moorpark. I got called to work the command post 2 years in a row, the one in Thousand Oaks, got some photos of the "Ahnald" Schwertzenager(sp),,,as he walked by our post. I also worked out at the command post in Moorpark, over by Arroyo Vista Park. It was very interesting on both occassions. But long hours, we worked 12hour shifts, I was the scrib and answered incoming calls. Did they do a command post in Moorpark this year?
Come on rains, SOCAL needs you.....
hugz to all, stay safe.

Just posted under weather. We have evacuated, but may get to go home tomorrow. The wind shift has helped the fires down in San Diego, but now we have to hope the wind isn't too strong from the west to blow it all back at us! We had a fire that came way too close to our house on the 15th of September. We had a one-day evac and now our house is full of the ash and soot from that one. My daughter and I left on our cross-country trip (wonderful!) on the 17th of September. We returned Friday and had a fire on the next street Sunday in the early AM. Evacuated Tuesday. I'm thinking we're the most blessed people in the world, or the dumbest for staying on so long...but it's home. Sorry for rambling. Maryjane Lee, please try calling, or send your number. Hope all the farmfriends in Ramona and their animals are safe. PLease let me know and pass my name if they need any help with anything. Will continue to pray for those in all fire areas. More later.

How's everyone doing today?

My parents and grandparents are in San Marcos and yesterday my dad said that even the air wasn't too bad. Two of my aunts live in Fallbrook...one's house is safe at the moment..the other one isn't sure what is happening with hers. The last map we looked at showed the fire right up to her house, but this was a day ago. We just keep praying that it doesn't get touched. The winds dying down have helped tremendously.

Thanks to you all. My husband and son just headed home a few minutes ago. Once that road was open, I knew there would be no holding back! May daughter and I are staying here with our friends one more night and will head home tomorrow. The beasties all went home with Daddy :)
Later,

Grace, et al,

Sorry for not responding sooner. I had a meeting last night and busy at work today.

We are all fine in Moorpark. No compand post - this time. The fire was contained near Tapo Canyon. I think its 80% contained. The Ranch fire is west of Piru and about 70% contained (I think). Sounds like they're managing it as a controlled burn to burn off some of the brushy areas.

Weather more like fall now. How fast it can change. Wed it was 95 and dry, dry dry. Today mid-70's, but the fog rolled in about sunset and it nice and cool.

DD's school sent a relief truck full of supplies today and our 4-h Club added 500 pounds of critter food to the haul.

I'm so pround of our kids. We only found out about the truck on Wed and by Thurs night my Suburban was full of feed. This morning the front of school was full of bags - food, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, school supplies, etc. I love seeing all our training and guidance emerge in such wonderful acts of kindness.
