Hi!
I will do the mannerly thing and introducing myself before I dive into the conversations!
We have owned our farm for only a year and a half. We have 10 acres. We have 450 fruit trees and a large garden that we harvest for sale at a local farmers market.
I work 30 hours a week at a job in the city and my DH works full-time at his construction business. We always have things to do that don't get done but it keeps us moving! LOL
We have 2 grown children (1 boy, 1 girl)and 2 grandchildren ( 1 boy, 1 girl) and 4 dogs who think they are our children!!
I have Lupus and have just started a different treatment for it. The methotrexate is pretty rough-I give myself a shot once a week. It has caused me to be very sun sensitive which keeps me out of my beloved garden during the heat of the day. But...I am much healthier than I was 3 years ago and our quiet country setting gives me great joy and serenity when I am not feeling so well.
I am finding it difficult to find friends who are happy for the life I have chosen. Almost all of them are city girls who think I am crazy and so far I have not had a chance to socialize much with my neighbors and I don't see it happening soon, as we are all very busy right now.
I hope to create new friendships here for the ones that are lacking at home. I want to learn the things I don't know and share what I do!
Have a great evening everyone! I am going home to pick all the Paula red apples that are ripe and then make carmel and candied apples for the farmers market on saturday!

Oh Boy, Oh Boy! Or should I say, "Oh Farmgirl"?
I was beginning to think that I was the only Nebraska Girl on this forum. Pretty strange for an AG state. I live in the city but am doing an edible landscape. I am working especially hard on cultivating fruit trees in my yard. I ENVY you your orchard . I spend my spare time on a hobby farm north of Omaha.

Welcome Melissa - I can relate to what you said about your friends. Alot of people just don't get it. Where I live in Maryland, everyone is concerned about how much bigger a house they can buy, how many more SUV's they can buy and how much more stuff they can put in their big houses. They don't know how to do anything and have no interet whatsoever in knowing. But you will find so many wonderful people here who are just like you and yet are so different and have so much to offer and teach you. I spent a huge portion this morning reading about dairy goats - which I plan to have when we move to our 10 acres. I want them and chickens and a huge garden. So I'm glad you are here and glad that you ahve already started your farmgirl activities.

welcome melissa-
i live in a state fairly close to you (MO)-we are getting ready for the MO state fair next week in Sedalia. My 12 yr old daughter shows broilers and hogs-hope it cools down just a bit for us.
what a cool garden. i envy your garden as well.
i also have lupus. some pretty bad days but mostly good-i have to be more careful in the sun/heat as well. makes going out to mess with the animals or garden a i little more complicated, doesn't it?
fairly new myself but am liking it very much. looking forward to visiting with you.

Welcome Melissa!! how wonderful!! and caramel apples...yum!! What a happy thing to have for sale. How can anyone NOT smile when they buy a candied apple????
