HELP! I need a Prairie Costume. I am looking to borrow, buy or barter. My school is having a book character parade on Halloween and I want to dress as Laura Ingalls. I am looking for any type of prairie dress, apron and bonnet although the bonnet is optional. I am a size 16/18. If any of you have something that would fit this description and could get it to me BEFORE OCT 31 this would be REALLY AWESOME! I saw a really cute one on a web site but it was 220.00 not including shipping! Post here or email if you can help me out.

I don't have anything like this but I think it would be easy enough to find an outfit like this by searching through your Goodwills, Salvation Army, St. Vincent stores. I see plenty of long floral skirts that look old fashioned and a simple white or floral print blouse would go well. Get some black boots and an apron (should be easy enough to find these as well at the above mentioned stores) and you've got yourself an old-fashioned prarie outfit for probably less than $20. The clothes worn in Laura Ingalls time were very simple and as long as you can find a bonnet to go along no one should question what your costume is! Or even a straw hat of sorts. -Elizabeth |

How about sewing a "Granny night gown"? Really simple, buy about 4 yds of tiny flower print cotton fabric. Using a Granny Night gown pattren sew it up. Then just sew a simple long 1/2 apron out of white fabric(old sheet). I recall an old McCalls pattren that had a simple granny night gown & nite bonnet, seems to me it was around in the 1970's....I know, I am showing my age...hahaha! Good luck.

oh Julie, here are a couple more sites to check out,,, www.plainlydressed.com www.modestclothes.com they are for Amish & Mennonite clothing, aprons & headcovering. They sell both pattrens as well as completed garments which might work well for your prairie outfit. >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. www.katmom4.blogspot.com |
