I just bought a big "hunk" of butter from an Amish family. I was wondering what I should do with it. Right now I have it in the freezer. I was wanting to make it into sticks or some how shape it so that it will fit into a usable form that fits into the butter holder thing in the fridge. Also, what do you shape butter with? Is it a special mold and where could one find it?
Thanks!

After we churn butter I line a mini loaf pan with plastic wrap and put the butter in that. I then fold over the edges so the butter is covered and place it in the freezer. When it is solid I can cut it in half lengthwise and it fits nicely on my butter dish. The remainder goes back in the freezer.

I would also think you could use a larger loaf pan for larger quantities of butter then slice them crosswise and wrap in wax paper and plastic for storing.

If you want someting prettier you can sometimes find decorative butter molds at antique stores. They are usually not very big though.
