any suggestions or helpful hints!! I don't have any needles yet, I do have wool pieces that would probely not be good to spin, can you use that? Do you have to card first, or can you use the clean smaller pieces? I have googled a bit, and had seen the cutest little sheep, white body and black head and legs. Thanks Michele |

Oh thanks Karen for the generous offer. I will check out the sites you mentioned. Thanks for posting them. I will get my own needles, just in case, I would not want to wreck yours. I have no idea how much they cost though. What kind of things have you felted, or made? Just thought it looked like a fun new craft to learn. I did look at the mielkes farm, lady bug the other day. You just keep pokeing the needle up and down till your wool gets solid?? Thanks again

Thanks again Karen. I liked reading the felting forum. I liked reading about the not so successful stories. Prepares me for what could happen. Boy they sure have forums for everything ! Information abounds !

Michele, I haven't done much a few small pieces. I like to play and experiment with new things (many craft projects 1/2 done). I think I only paid $6 for needles, so if you'd like them, I'd be willing to barter. KarenP

Oaky Karen, you got me interested, I will email you.
Now I have a few more questions. I did some window shopping, okay it was on Ebay, and just wondering what I would need. Do you need a needle holder, does it make it easier to do with more needles. They also had a mat to use under the needles. What does a person need to do needle felting ? Just a needle ?

From my investigation, you need a needle and something to needle into like foam or something and of course wool. I think if I was to get into it, I'd get a handle for multiple needles to make it go faster. Single needle is a good place to start. KarenP

I think that you can get some reasonably priced needles at hobby lobby, too - with or without the holder. The holder holds 5 or so needles so the felting goes much faster. If you're just going to do little things like a pinkeeper, then you don't really need the holder. You can use an old foam cushion from a couch or a small piece of foam, 10 x 10, 1 to 2" thick from the fabric store - doesn't have to be anything beautiful, its so the needle has something to go in and out of, easily, without sticking you or the table underneath it. Have fun! |

www.peacefleece.com is about the cheapest source for needles I've found. They're 25 cents a piece!
"Our life is frittered away by detail. An honest man has hardly need to count more than his ten fingers, or in extreme cases he may add his ten toes, and lump the rest. Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb nail."
