I had a little twinge in the back of my throat today and my head aches. So I made sure to take my vitamins and I put cleaning on the shelf for the day. I am just taking it easy. I would love to try some of the holistic approaches to niping this in the bud, but I don't have any on hand.
So since I am doing what I can do (resting, drinking tons of water, taking vitamins), what do you do when you aren't quite sick yet, but know you are getting sick.

i up the echinacea and stay on it two weeks on then three days off. I also, if it is in my chest and nose, take nettle that I have put into capsules. I also drink a lot of tea. When the chest and sinus are a little more severe, I take a teaspoon of hot sauce or a spoonful or horseradish. clears things out nice. For nighttime and easy breathing, I use eucalyptus, tea tree and lavender oils in equal amounts (usually 10-15 drops of each) on a hanky for inhaling and helping to clear the sticky chest congestion.

We up our vitamin C intake to 3000 mg. daily. I have had great success doing this. Also taking 1000 mg. daily, even when your not sick will boost your immune system.
Hope you nipped it in the bud Alee!

Yes, Alee, I agree with Sarah, use that neti pot. I LOVE mine. I haven't had to take a claritin in over two weeks since I started using mine. Feel better soon, hon.

Oh you ladies are so lucky that can do the neti pots. I can't. I feel like I am drowning (I have had a few close calls in the past) and I start to freak out. Silly I know. I can't even do saline sprays!!
I made myself a rice bag and am trying to get the heat to help loosen the junk. But I wish I was sleeping! :D

Oh Sunshine! I am so sorry we are in this boat together! I am sucking on a zinc throat drop and even though it makes my lips feel really dry (weird) it is really helping my throat. I also used a rice bag to help get my sinuses moving and that seems to help. I hope you are able to go back to sleep soon. I am contemplating taking a propranolol tablet as they usually make me really sleepy and are okay for use when breastfeeding. I am just not sure if I am that desperate yet since I only have about 10 left. :D

I think those zinc cold remedies really work. We use Zicam and Cold Eez, and it really seems to shorten the cold, as well as relieve the symptoms. Hope you feel better soon. |

I am still sick, still doing what I can. The salt water helps clear out some of the infection. I am hoping I am on the other side of this now- but who knows?

I'll start drinking lots more and paying more attention to wasing hands and staying away from people. If someone around me is sick, i try really hard to wash my hands too and not put fingers in my eyes. (itchy contacts) I'll occasionally swab phones and door knobs w/ alcohol.
Haven't had the flu in some time (knock wood) and managed through last winter w/ just a minor head cold.
I'll also up the zinc losenges.

If you think it may be sinus related, get yourself some pure essential oil of peppermint and a bowl of hot steaming water, put a few drops of the essential oil of peppermint and tent your head with a towel. Be sure not to get your face too close to the steam so you don't burn your eyes. As you are inhaling the peppermint - you can add a drop or two of eucalyptus essential oil also, massage your sinus area and you should start to get relief. Be careful with a sinus infection that gets out of control, it can get bad enough that it needs treatment with an antibiotic. Also for nipping anything in the bud, I have had good luck with Sambucal with Ester C - it is made by Natrol or some similar spelling. But it is a godsend in the colder months. You should be able to find it online. Feel better soon!
