| I am looking for some really plump nice feather pillows for Christmas presents. Do any of you farmgirls sell them. I'd like the really soft down feather pillows or just let me know what is available. Thanks bunches. Tracy |

I have ordered from them a lot in the past and am always pleased with what I get.

Alee, thanks for the quick response. I checked overstock and did find some nice down pillows. I'm going to wait and see if any farmgirls have some for sale. I'd like to have at least four pillows. Tracy |

Rebecca these are regular or queen size bed pillows not like I sell Mary Jane, but once you have them you wont leave home without your pillow

How do I clean them To go from start, I buy nice clean feather beds empty the feathers into large bags , wash the ticking thru the wringer washer three times before it goes in the automatic washer and dryer after this prosess I iorn and cut the ticking to size sew up and fill with feathers, then I run two pillows at a time in the dryer high heat for 30 40 min, To clean after using empty feathers in bags wash ticking you dont have to take apart just turn wrong side out for washing wash and fill back up. If it is windy I would hang the empty pillows on the line and get rid of a lot of fine down before washing, do not try to wash filled pillow in washer, that is a bigggg mess You can go many years with out having to clean them.

| Just a funny story about a feather pillow...Grandaddy had one, and I remember it being strangely heavy. Once, when I was helping Granny make the bed, she told me the story about how when Grandaddy was a boy, his family's house caught fire, and among the few things they were able to save was a featherbed - someone threw it out the window of the buring house. Later, when it wore out they cut it up and made it into pillows. It must have lasted fifty years. I know that Granny washed it once a year, more or less in the same manner Miss Wilma describes! |

Tracy they usually run 17 x 28or 9, I do them any firmness you want, No I cant wash the feathers but really when you open up a real good feather bed the feathers are so pretty, When I run them in the dryer I think the heat would take care of any thing I can tell you my pillows are clean I have a chemical that I can spray them with but I dont like it, Mary Jane sleeps on my pillows. I still have pillows from when I was a youngin that Wilma made for us with the old ticking. Well one time I had newer feather pillow that I kept up. It needed washing because in the process of moving, it got a little dirty. Well I decided to be a genius and wash it and dry it...in the machines. Whew did I pay for that mistake! Feathers were EVERYWHERE but that pillow is still being used in our guest bedroom. It took forever to clean out those feathers!! I learned my lesson that day. haha. But I will say those are the most comfy pillows to sleep on!!

Wilma I would love to order 4 pillows. I like a pretty firm pillow and I am sure I will love yours! You mentioned that you make them from vintage ticking. I recently bought a bolt of vintage ticking that had been in a local farmhouse ( that was in the same family since the early 1800's) I don't know how old it is but it is very old and in great shape. I have washed several yards and dried it to make aprons for BIL and DH for cookouts. My MIL has several pillows in her house that she made from a feather mattress that she slept on growing up. They are wonderful and probably around 80 yrs old. I love them.

Tracy how lucky to get the ticking, Is it wide stripe or narrow, what color? I wont be back in the sewing house until next week if you will send me your phone no I will call you the day they go out , you can pay me when you get them and see if you like them, Also I need your address. I would love to try a feather bed pillow of Miss Wilma's, but I wonder if I might have an allergy to the feathers. We had feather pillows when I lived at home but that of course was a lifetime ago, and since then I seem to sneeze around cats and in the spring etc.

The ticking I found has narrow blue and ecru stripes. I was out checking the local thrift & re-sale shops one day and someone told me about a lady who lives on a local farm who sells things in a little building next to her garden. Away I went to find her. She and her husband looked after an elderly ladie for many years who lived on the farm next to her and her DH. The woman had one son in Florida. When the lady died the son came up to take care of things and told this couple that they could take everything out of the house and keep it because he was going to bulldoze the house and sell the 100 acres to developers. Well good gosh they hit the motherload! She kept all of the things, furniture,linens,dishes,you name it for many years and finally decided she needed to part with most of it because she really had more than she ever needed. She fills the little building by the garden and sells it then keeps refilling the building with more treasures. I could write pages about this but anyway I bought 9 quilts for $10 each. They are seriously old but it pretty good shape. I bought an oak side table,old cast iron dutch oven(the lady cooked collards in this pot her entire married life) enamel dishpans(I like to shell peas in them),flour sacks,teapot,costume jewelry,old wooden thread spools( I was told that the lady had them with a nail through the hole nailed inside her closet to hang clothes on) and more wonderful things. Instead of bulldozing the house down the womens son let the couple dismantle the house, board by board. He has it stacked up and says he could put it right back together if he wanted to. There was some seriously beautiful wood on that pile. This couple also dismantled a farm house built in the mid 1700's and have the wood and everything else as well including the bricks! I have picked out some wood from that house and am going to have someone make me a farm table. The wood is old growth and probably 2 1/2inches thick. I didn't mean to go on an on about this but it couldn't be helped! Yikes. Wasn't it feather pillows I was first talking about?!!!!
I need to finish this story on another site I think. Off I go. Tracy

Received my feather pillows from Miss Wilma last Thursday. They are beautiful! The ticking is excellent quality blue-white stripe and they are stuffed very full just the way I like them. I still use my Miss Wilma feather pillow I got probably 2 years ago. The grands fight for it when they sleep over. Maybe I need some more. LOL
