I am so excited..I am finally..after years of hoping and never making it there..going to the TAste of home cooking show tonight. One of my best friends is totally in charge of it..she works for the local radio station who sponsors it..and asked me to take tickets in exchange for lunch and a free ticket to the show...how fun!! It is an hour south of here and I will be there most all day..there is a trade show all afternoon too..should be fun!!
So...I am off for the day..there is a note on the table for husband and the kids with miles of instructions for them for the afternoon/evening..all but one of the kids have something to go to..it took alot of work to get all their rides, and stuff ready..but I KNOW it will be worth it!!! I am off to GIRL day!!

I had so so much fun!! Didn't get home until nearly 11pm..since it was an hour south of here...but sure worth it. They gave us a wonderful lunch, and I met the nicest gal to talk to..I worked right with her all day doing reserve seating and passing out the coveted gift bags. I even had time to walk around the trade show during the slow time and bought a little christmas table topper quilt kit.
I didn't win anything during the show..but it sure was fun. The gal who did it was so cute..she was from Texas and was funny and really bubbly and made the whole thing fun. I got to sit front row center too...what fun! And the goodie bags were great!!! I am tired but so wired still that I havn't felt sleepy. If any of you ever get a chance to go to one..do!! It was great!!
And a great get away for the day.

I used to be a reporter at a newspaper, and the Taste of Home show was one of our biggest things to do each year. What a pain! We stuffed each of those goodie bags that everyone wants and were at the show from opening until closing. But after I went, I realized what fun it was! The ladies in town would line up hours before the show started to make sure they got a goodie bag. I wish we had one around near us now. I'd go, for sure, especially since I don't have to do any of the work now. :)

That is what my friend did...the radio station is the main sponsor and organizer. She was down there still until 1pm today with cleanup and finishing up all the details and is glad it is over for another year. It was so fun!!

Sharon!! Yay! so good to hear from you here!! Are you visiting Amish country while you are in Indiana??
Oh the goodie bag was good...two cookbooks from TAste of home (paperback) and a small dessert brochure, as well as samples and recipes and coupons from some of the big name sponsors (Kraft, Ziploc, Viva towels, Philly cream cheese, and many more ..it is late and I can't think) from the local sponsors there were calendars, pens, ballons, cups, small food samples, certificates for great discounts (two were from my favorite quilt shops!!!!) and even a pedometer, tape measure and level, keychains, candy, more recipes and more coupons, and more stuff I am sure I am forgetting. There were about 35 bags that had a special fancy lollipop inside that got whole bags of groceries from local grocery stores in our county, and some of the other giveaways were fantastic too...nice gift baskets and stuff..
Anyway..the goodie bags were so fun! I got some really great recipes..I will have to post some on my blog or here as I try them. The ones the gal did onstage looked so so so good!! The tropical bran muffins and the Turkey roast with glaze that she did especially..yum!! I wish you could have all been there!!

Oh, I'm so totally jealous!!! I loved their mag, but after 10 years of getting it, called it quits so I could use all the recipes I'd been getting for so long. Sounds like it was a great time!

Jenny, so glad you were able to experience the "Taste of Home". I've been for the past three years and wouldn't miss it. My sister renews my subscription to the magazine for my birthday every year and going to class is the icing on the cake.

I love the Taste of Home!

I think the Reiman publications all started from "Farm Wife News" that was in the back of the Farm Journal when I was a kid. I always read that magazine before my dad got to it. Then maybe in the early 70's it spun off to a separate magazine, then it became something else, then "Country Woman" then separated into all those separate magazines like "reminisce" and "taste of home" and some other ones, too.... Dad kept on subscribing to the Farm Journal but it just wasn't the same for me!
