And how I envy all you talented ladies here who can sew. I bought this Atlas portable machine in a Salvation Army store last Saturday for $9.99. It says 'made in Japan' on it. Has anyone ever heard of this brand name? It's so retro and PINK! I just love it! It still has the top part with the carry handle. But no instruction manual. I don't know what I'm going to do with it. Just clean it up and admire it for a while and then put it in my booth in the antique mall. Darn. It's just so cute!

You may be able to find manuals for it online...sometimes they have them for sale.
My metal Japanese machine isn't that old, but I love my old Japanese machine...

It looks like a late 50's, early 60's machine, pink was the rage then wasn't it?

Wow! I just got back from exercise class and Georgann! You found the manual on ebay!!!!! YIPPEE!!!! I just put a watch on it and I'm sitting here thinking about buying the manual and keeping the machine for myself! :D While I was on my way to exercise, I went through an area in a basement where furniture was stored. Sitting there was a cute cabinet with two drawers just the size to sit the machine on. It used to be a typewriter table 'back in the day', I think. I asked the man in charge about it and he cheerily said: "Oh, you can have it!" I'm going back in about five minutes and haul it up Broadway to my office! FUN! Now if only I lived close to one of you ladies and could learn to sew!

Okay, somebody is trying to tell me to keep this crazy pink machine! It may be time for sewing lessons! When I got the cabinet from the school(used to be a bank) basement, my friend Carolyn said: "Look, are those hinges?" Then we lifted the lid, and WOWEE! It's an old sewing cabinet without a machine in there! Why was this thing in the midst of old, castoff office furniture? It's missing the part inside that lifted the machine, but I think that can be replaced. And when I checked ebay today, I found a listing for the manual AND a box of attachments/parts! I think it's meant to be. :D

hey Janice..want lessons? I am only 2 hours away and frequent louisville often...we have passes to zoo and science center for kids. let me know if you wanna get together..love the machine. Also, you can usually find the sewing machine manuals free online if you just search a little! I have bought manuals off ebay and then later found them free on line and felt like a heel! |

Georgann - Someone at the Salv.Army sewed on it and it looks like it works great. Nancy Jo - I'm dealing with it! LOL! I just left a bid on ebay for the box of attachments and the manual. My dh is the one who's going to flip out when he finds out I'm planning to keep it and take lessons. And he'll probably ROFLOL! Jess - WOW! That's a very kind and fantastic offer, girl! Let me check around here and see if I can find someone close to my work - there's a huge fabric store about five minutes from my office. But if you're ever here and can 'do lunch', or thrifting, or whatever else, just say the word!

Well, Lisa, I bid on the attachments and was outbid at the last minute. :( And now my dh is kind of letting me know that he thinks I should take the machine to my booth and sell it. He may be right about me keeping too much stuff...:( boohoo. I'm sad. I was all excited last week and now my bubble has burst. But the machine is just so PINK and CUTE. And I really want to learn to sew at least on a basic level.

Once a sewing machine gets under your skin it's yours. Take something else to your booth and keep the machine. You will love learning to sew. KEEP The Pink Machine!!!!!!!!
