MaryJane got here Saturday and met us at the court house just after noon with Meg, Lukas and the baby (I don't know if they would appreciate the baby's name on line; so I'll leave it out). The baby is sooooo adorable. She has her own little aprons and is such a contented, happy little girl.
Rose took them up to the house we were "donated" for them to stay in and then we started the tour. They just loved all of our historic buildings and MaryJane took lots of pictures. We even got to go into the Oddfellows Hall; which I have never been inside in the 8 years I've lived here. The Oddfellows were actually here having a meeting and were very gracious. The history of their members, the organiziation and all the old photos and paintings inside was just incredible.
Farmgirls were dropping out of the tour one by one to finish getting the potluck ready. My daughter and I were the last ones left in charge to make sure we got them to the potluck. I got them there but I didn't do a very good job of getting them there on time. We were an hour late. We just have so many historic buildings and information about them. And MaryJane was just having too much fun taking pictures! But it was all good. We had about 40+ people, two singer/guitar players and TONS of food.
The food was great, the conversations were great, the music was really fun and some of us got up to dance; including MaryJane, Meg, Lukas and baby.
We gave MaryJane a small wooden box with a woodburned and painted bird? (I don't remember exactly what it was) on it that Farmgirl Candace had made (Candace is VERY talented); a large pine planter with our chapter name carved in it that Farmgirl Felicia B's hubby had made and we filled it with goodies for them.
Then at the potluck, I was about to give MaryJane a picture of our Catholic Church with a square nail from the church (we're renovating the inside) glued to the frame when Rose's oldest son, Josh wanted to help. Josh has Down's Syndrome and is always looking to help. He's such a sweet person. So, I handed him the picture and told him to give it to MaryJane. He hesitated but he did give it to her. MaryJane gave him a big hug and he just blushed a dozen ways to Sunday. It was really cute.
Then yesterday, at noon, we all learned how to make rag rugs. That was a lot of fun and MaryJane brought the Farmgirl Quilts and pillow. She carries them in an old-style suitcase. You gals who made those are so talented! They were just beautiful works of art. I recognized the names on the pillow; all you gals from Utah. What a lot of work went into those pieces. We were all impressed.
So now it's Monday and back to the grind. We all have such great memories of this weekend and as soon as my daughter finishes downloading all the pictures, I will get them on our website and let you know when they are there. Her camera also takes videos (which we took a few) so I guess that complicates things for her.
MaryJane, Meg and Lukas are such wonderful people. Salt of the earth, positive, cheerful, caring, inspiring, REAL. What a TREMENDOUS pleasure it was to have them here in our little town. You gals in Kentucky and Georgia are in for a wonderful treat soon.

Oh I am so glad you had fun with MaryJane and family!
They really are wonderful people. The first couple times I met them I was suprised to find out that they are exactly the way the books and magazines portray them. So many people who are in publishing have "public persona" and their real character. But MaryJane and her family don't have public personas- they are who they are- they don't change who they are for the books or magazines!
I can't wait to see the pictures as well- and hopefully MaryJane will share her photos with us when she gets home!

You know, Alee, my Husband said the exact same thing: that MaryJane was exactly as he was expecting. He was so pleased to meet her and so happy that she wasn't any different. You're right, though. So many public people are NOT what you are led to beleive and often you walk away really disappointed in them. MJ and family are as real as your next door neighbor.

How I wish I could have been there! I'm a history buff and would have loved to see your town. Sooo glad you had fun with MJ and the family. And you're right. There's no one "real-er" than MJ.

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. MaryJane is a very "easy" guest to have . . . so warm and friendly. I had the good fortune of spending the day with her last May when she came to my antique show and did a book signing. Though she is certainly special, what I really like about her is that she truly is "the girl next door" and you are at ease with her very quickly and just feel like old girl friends.
I am glad you had such a wonderful weekend and that it gave you such great memories. You will have to post pics if you have any. I have a great one that Michelle (Huckleberry Wine) gave me of MaryJane and I together. It says "Farmgirls Forever" across the bottom.
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda
