We went to a Fiber Fest today in Hemlock NY. Oh what fun we had. I have never seen so much beautiful yarn in so many beautiful colors in my life! So many of you girls would of loved this! There was everything from sheep herding demos to spinning and weaveing. One friend is taking weaving classes and both of them are avid knitters. I really am going to learn how to knit. I do some crocheting, but I was so excited by all this I must learn! They had Alpacas there that I fell in love with. Their wool is lovely. I was amazed at all the different textures of the wool the vendors had. The sweaters and shawls and hats etc. were just works of art. They had every book on knitting and felting and patterns galore. My friend Eileen went nuts.
It was so much fun helping her pick out all the different colors of yarn and she got some books, needles etc. You are probably laughing at my child like excitement, but wow did I have fun. I had to share!
I am sorry, I got so excited I posted this in the wrong forum!

Sounds like a great time Mary Jane! I wish we had things like that here. I would have loved that. I am a die hard yarn lover too! I must have tons of it in boxes and bags!I crochet and do plastic canvas. I don't knit though. I'd like tolearn, but for now I'm gonna stick with what I know. I also have a quilt in progress...So glad you had a great time!!

Like Tammy, sure wish we had something like that close to me. I would be as excited as you Mary Jane. Glad you had a good time, and am inspired to learn more.

Oh girls....there are fiber festivals everywhere!!

Dearest Tammy, the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival is one of the biggest in the country. It's held annually on the first weekend in May at the Howard County fairgrounds. http://www.wggb.org/sheep.htm

Dearest Michele, you have several options. The Wisconsin Spin in is being held October 12-14 in West Bend, Wi www.wispinin.org And, you just missed the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool festival at the Jefferson County fairgrounds on Sept 7-9. www.wisconsinsheepandwoolfestival.com

Before I was a spinner I wondered where all these neat things were too, but now that I've been spinning & weaving for 10+ years, I know they're all right under our noses--we just need to find them!! Good resources are local knitting and weaving guilds as well as the internet. Ask around and you'll find all kinds of "stuff" to enhance your fiber/yarn stash!!!!

Kathy, you are a nut, you enabler, you! Your kind of "self help" group would be the coolest.....where you could "help yourself" to more yarn!! Hugs, Nance

For anyone near northern Ohio, the Malabar Farm Spinning and Weaving guild is holding their fall Spin-In next weekend, I can't go boo-hoo, because I'll be in Grand Rapids at a Machine Knitting seminar - Gosh I wish these were separate weekends!

I was there too! It was our third year in a row. It's a family tradition now. I am hoping that I can get a booth there, for next year, to sell our fiber. I want to go to the Rhienbeck, NY festival. Anyone want to carpool?
