Another great web site if you would like to send a care package to a unit stationed overseas is www.anysoldier.com We try to send at least one package a month. Luckily mine is stationed in the US right now.

| my husband's best friend just left 2 wks ago...we are certainly worried about him...and I had never thought about sending him a package...duh! we send emails and cards...i am sure he would love a package. He has no wife or kids, and has always wished he had what we have, just has not worked out. We will have to do this...great suggestion Kathy! |

Another good organization to go through is www.adoptaplatoon.org You can choose to adopt a soldier and send them monthly care packages and weekly letters or only do the letters if that's all you're able. I've done both and even though I haven't always heard back from the soldiers it's nice to know I'm doing something to brighten someone elses day. And if you know anyone that doesn't have much support from home you can get their info to adopt a platoon and they will get them adopted for their deployment.

Having friends serving in the military and some being overseas in the past and currently got one over there, sending packages are always welcomed over there. Something to be sure to think of - make sure you don't send any liquids or anything that might melt. Here is some ideas: jerky, popcorn, cookies, baby wipes, books, dvds, etc (Those are just the things that go the fastest.) Oh anything that will melt (ie. chocolate) should not be sent...unless the packages will be sent after October and before March according to those that have served in Iraq. Be sure to check with the USPS on how to ship items, how much, etc.

I do send liquids, I put them in two ziplock baggies. It seems tops on the lists of needs are hygiene items and it is best to not send food in the same box. Powdered drink mixes (gatorade, crystal lite, etc) are great for them to put in their bottled water. With winter coming hand warmers (found in the sporting goods dept) and foot warmers and believe it or not some of these poor guys and girls don't have blankets or helmet liners. In general our troops need ANYTHING that you can send.

Thank you for thinking of all the soldiers, and reminding us all to do the same! I have a brother-in-law in the Reserves. He hasn't seen any front-line duty, but did some training overseas. It is scary to think that so many of these soldiers are so young, with young families. . .it makes you pray even harder for them and their families!
