Hi everyone. I'm new to the barter page, and unfortunately I haven't figured out the photo thing yet. Anyhow. . .I have a sunbonnet which I made that I'd like to barter with someone who'd like it. It is a tan on tan tiny floral pattern cotton fabric, just a basic sunbonnet (think Laura Ingalls, I guess). It has a nice wide brim and also a part that goes down to cover a few inches of your neck. Sunbonnets are really great for keeping the sun off you outdoors (especially if you wear a ponytail. . .fits right in nicely!). If you'd like a picture, I would be happy to email you a pic. As for what I'm looking for, I'd love a homemade soap, but I'm open to other suggestions, also. Thanks! |

funny i just saw this thread.. and just 2 weeks ago, my dad had me go through a stash of fabric he had unpacked from my mom's cedar chest (she passed 14 years ago... he's a lil slow). and in it were a couple of aprons, a long prarie like skirt and several sunbonnets she had made, probably 20 years ago. i snatched the aprons, skirt and a few of the bonnets... 2 were made to tie under your chin and the others would just stay on without tying... she was a great seamstress... i, on the otherhand, just play at sewing... i wish i was better at it.. especially after seeing (again) some of the things she made... she made all my clothes as i was growing up... all the way into high school... in fact the dress i wore for senior pictures and my prom dress were made by my mom. thanks for reminding me of the memories.

Oh Alison, everything takes practice because you know, we just weren't born knowing how to do things. Practice and a class if you can squeeze it in. Sounds like your mom was really an excellent seamstress - what lovely memories for you!
Sheila, I sent you another email, but forgot to ask your address, please email me, thanks! Oh, I have a ponytail too at times.

SheilaC-- Zanesfield, not Zanesville?
It's got to be near, right? Some of my people are from Zanesville.

Yes, Zanesfield--a very tiny little town, as opposed to Zanesville, which is much larger! We're about 2 hours from Zanesville. We get lots of laughs when people we meet say things like, Oh, yes, I think I stayed in the Holiday Inn there once! Well, we don't even have a gas station, so for some reason that sends us into great laughter! |

Sheila, I sent you my address - thank you so much. I won't be able to get the soap out until Monday morning - but I will do it first thing on Monday, no problem. Thanks again.

SheilaC The soap is on the way - hope you like it. You can use it for almost anything - like I even use it for washing my hair. And the Cedar-Amberwood I like so much, I put it in my sweater drawer and all my sweaters smell so pretty....it is a little strongly scented, but it doesn't bother me. Sometimes I leave a bar of scented soap in my vehicle for a few weeks and its like an air freshner, then I'll bring it in and use it. Anyway, keep an eye out for your soap, its in a little package! |

Thanks Chris! I sent your sunbonnet out yesterday, also. My daughter wanted to keep it for herself! She already has a couple that she wears all the time. Enjoy! Thanks for doing the swap! |

SheilaC My hat came today - it is very nice! So cute - I took it out of the package (my dh and i were on the way to town) and put it on....I must say, people did look at me and smile, felt like Laura Ingalls....Even had a few men open doors for me, tho people in this area do that for each other anyway, but i'd like to think it was because of my new bonnet. Do you sell them also? Or just trade for soap? I'm thinkin that I'd trade again so I can give one to the soap lady - let me know when you get the soap. Thank you again for the swap.
Bonne, I like your bonnet, very cute, and you did a very good job of taking your very own picture, twice! |
