We had a wasp nest hanging under the overhang of our above ground pool. Last night we sprayed a wasp killer into it. This morning when my husband got up to pick up the nest and the dead wasps, the chickens were right there, and it looked at though they had eaten every last one. My questions are: are my chickens going to die? If not, is it safe to eat their eggs? They haven't started laying let, but are due to start in about 3 weeks. Any help or direction would be GREATLY appreciated! I don't want to lose my chickens!!! Thank you!

I would google the acitve ingredience to see if injested what would happens. If it is a systematic poison it could stay in the system that long but I doubt it. If it is permethrin based I think it won't kill them. We use that type of product to kill mites on the chickens. My hubby says it is probably not systemic because it kills the wasps instantly but try doing your own research to see. Good luck!!

I have kept chickens for a while now, and don't know much more then when I started, honestly! But, one time when they were cooped up I did a round of ant poison in a bunch of spots in the yard (the granular kind). Well, my 2yo let them out later without me knowing and they pecked up the stuff like candy. None of them showed any signs of being sick after it, we just tossed the eggs for the next week to be sure. If yours make it, I would guess that the eggs would be fine, especially because I have never had pullets start laying 'on schedule'. In fact, the last batch of chicks I got didn't start until 9 months. Yikes! I was wondering if they were all duds or something! Anyways, just make sure they have tons of water-- it might help to 'flush' their systems (at least that's what they say to do with kids when they get into cleaner chemicals!). Good luck!
