My dog a rotten rotty, has been licking incessantly! He licks the floors, he licks the carpets, he licks his feet, he is making me crazy....

Any ideas? Vet says nothings wrong but it just isn't normal, is it?
He has not done this before?

Thanks,

Lorna

Lorna,
When one of my dogs was doing this (he also licked fur off his paw!) my vet said it becomes some kind of really strong habit, kind of like OCD. It has some name but I forgot what it is. She said something probably triggered it ( he got scared or mad or something) and he did to comfort himself and there was really nothing medical to do about it. She did suggest one of those cone things around his neck, but I don't like them. So, I just told him to stop everytime he did it, I sprayed some bitter apple spray on his favorite places to lick (it didn't do much good though) and I wrapped his paw up so he couldn't get to it. He ripped that off though. I also sat down on the floor with him (he's a big boy and he doesn't like to get on the couch) and gave hime some quality time a few times a day. I would also sneak him a treat when the other dogs were not looking! It took 2 - 3 weeks but he did stop. Maybe it is something that easy. I tell you these animals have a deeper psychology than me!
Good Luck

I agree with Merle. Also try more excercise and activities.

Hi Lorna,
Constant licking can also be a sign of thyroid disease in dogs. It's easiy treated. One of my dogs had this & it was easily diagnosed with a blood test. Might have that checked out.
