Yesterday afternoon 2 of my 17-year old son's classmates were killed in a car accident. They were driving really, really fast with no seatbelts, and couldn't stop in time to avoid a tractor trailer that was turning left in front of them. The skid marks from when they started braking were nearly 400 feet long. It's so scary, especially when you have a teen of your own who's driving...not to mention so heartbreaking. I keep thinking of those poor parents and, well, it leaves me speechless. I don't know their names (the parents), but could you say a little prayer for them? Thanks.
Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10 |

Will do - it's only by the grace of god that my four kids survived til adulthood without something like that happening. I know my boys especially drove way to fast and recklessly and did some drinking when they were in high school. My heart goes out to those families. |

It's terrible...I'm so sorry for their parents, and friends. Just when life was beginning! We've had so many similar accidents here in the past two months.
I remember feeling invincible at that age, how about anyone else? The difference was, I didn't get my license until I was 22.

We've had 3 major car accidents this summer that killed multiple young people. In one accident, 5 girls from the same high school were traveling together in one car and they all died in the crash. They were texting back and forth to friends in another car and the distraction probably contributed. I don't remember feeling invincible when I started driving. I was terrified, and probably dangerous for that reason too. I guess I was the exception to the rule. |

It seems sometimes girls are a bit more cautious when the start driving, but I think all new drivers tend to drive too fast. The grandson my stepmom is raising is 15 1/2 and has his permit. He's just over 5 ft tall and driving this big 4wd pickup...and drives it way too overconfident. Very fast in their rural winding roads, where a stray kid or calf could be around any curve. I rode with them and it scared me. First, he had it in gear and moving before I had the passenger door even closed, changes gears from reverse to drive before it's stopped, changed lanes in an intersection...and very eager to grab the mike for the CB radio, which is not hardly within his short reach. He's heard what a good driver he is from his grandparents so many times, he probably thinks he's bulletproof. Recipe for disaster. So many teenagers lose their lives on the road and a good many were preventable..like the 5 beautiful girls and the text messaging, what a tragedy. We can only hope when it happens close to home that our kids take heed and learn from the loss. Parent's aren't supposed to need to bury their children. Ronna |

My heart aches for those parents. Definitely, they have my prayers. I may not know their names, but God will know EXACTLY who I'm talking about.

So sad. My oldest is 15 1/2 and nagging about when he gets his license. He is so immature. I think I will make him wait until 40! If only I could. It really does scare me. At least in Washington State they can't take other teens with them in the car for the first 6 monthes they are driving. I will keep these families in my prayers. Their lives will never be the same.
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda
