This is a show that was made about 5 years ago in Canada (actually about 45 minutes north of where I live!) I hope this show is on somewhere in the USA, because if it is, you should really make a point of watching it.
Basically, it's a reality show, and two couples were selected to live in the Canadian prairie for one year as the homesteaders of the 1870's would have. No running water and only the basic tools of the time. I really love watching this show so much...you get to watch the couples build their log homes, work the land, create their gardens and keep their animals. They also have to deal with the harsh Canadian winter and swarms of mosquitoes. Both couples end up surviving the year, and although I've seen all the episodes, I keep watching it again and again. It's on OLN network in Canada, which is basically the "Versus" channel in the USA. You should definitely check it out.

I'm going to have to look for both of those shows. I would love to be on one! I think that's the only way I would ever be on a reality show. I think it would be a blast!

I love that show! It's my very favourite out of all the "Quest" series that were done. I especially liked it because it was a whole year and the couples were really invested in it. It wasn't hollywood or done for 'good' tv. I taped the series when it was on years ago and re-watch it often. Sometimes I find myself singing Tim's song. "You'll get used to it, you'll get used to it. Living like a settler you'll get used to it. Mosquitoes, mud, and more - a tent without a door!...." Lol.
I did watch the pbs Frontier house and was really disappointed in the families they choose. It didn't make for a good dynamic - more exciting for reality tv though, I guess.
The other historic reality show that I really liked was the BBC 1900 House.
