That past couple of days the smoke from the forest fires here has been settling in our valleys and it's just awful here in town. I have to keep my daughter inside because of her asthma. This morning I went out at 5:30 and the moon, which was still up high, had this orangey-brown color to it. Now, that it's dawn, the light outside has a yellowish tinge to it. It smells of wood smoke outside, which normally I love the smell, but when I know it's whole forests on fire it's kind of hard to enjoy it. And it will probably be in the 90's again today. I hate the hot weather and this year has been VERY hot and dry. I hate to say it, but I can't wait for September.

I can relate to the whole fire and smoke - we too have had fires this year.. and I am sure that it makes it worse when your little one has asthma.... last year the fires that raged in the blue moutains were all around our cabin and while the cabin itself was safe, it is still so hard to see the landscape so charred.. of course this spring we had the best "mushroom" season in years.....I'll be praying that some cool evening winds blowes in come clean air.....

Sorry to hear about all the smoke there, not to change the subject, but how is your farmers market going! I enjoy reading everyone's posting and just remembered you in Idaho City and congrats on winning the chapter with the most entries on the pincushion contest, your laundry basket idea was so cute! Seems your chapter has taken off very well, and you are expecting a visit from Mary Jane also soon! Congrats!

Oh Lisa, and Rene, praying for some fresh air. I agree this year has been drat it hot. As of yesterday our July here in Spokane was the hottest on record, which means I am sure yours was a well. We aren't as smoky as you but if you drive into town it hangs there in the valley. We live up on the westend by the airport so get a better breeze. Granddaughter has asthma and this can be no fun.
Thining of you both,
Carol Sue

Enjoying life.

We had some smokey days here too a couple weeks ago..first from a fire south of us and then from one north of us..sure is a bad fire season this year!!
We finally have had a little rain..that has sure cleared the air. Today is the first day that is warm but not HOT in a long time. I am loving it!

The smoke is so bad we can hardly see 200 yards - maybe. So far today it seems like we're in a fog that the sun can't even shine through. We need a downpour!

Ann, our farmers market is doing well. We still don't have a lot of vendors but that will come in time. We've been asked by our Chamber of Commerce to set up an extra day this month so we'll be busy 2 weekends in a row. They've also asked us to join the Chamber and then they will cover the insurance we need to do the Old Fashioned Fair we are planning.

Thanks for the congrats on our winning the contest. We are all so very excited. Rose just confirmed the date that MJ will be here on the 15th of September! I can hardly stand the wait. We are still working very hard on the Fair we are doing the weekend after MJ's visit. I don't expect it will be very big but these things never are on the first time out.

The fires and smoke are really bad around Missoula (Mont.) this year. They just called an evacuation order for Seeley Lake this afternoon. My heart aches for all the people up there who have had to leave homes, and hope they've all been sensible enought to thin their woods and prepare their homes.

Wasn't like this when we moved here ten years ago. Looks like this is what the future holds for us, though. Makes for pretty sunsets, but hard on folks with lung troubles.

My heart goes out to y'all with the fire/smoke issues. We seem to have been spared for a while as the recent rains have lowered the fire danger from extreme to "high".

I'll keep you in my prayers.

Yellowpine has now been evacuated. I have friends with a home up there. I pray the firefighters can save everybody's home there. I'd be sick with worry if my home was in danger like that.

This has got to be the worst fire season I have ever seen. Cooler weather is coming and I hope it brings lots of rain.
